Orji sets up c’ttee to revive Aba Textlile Mills 0 July 7, 2011 News BY Anayo Okoli Umuahia— IN an effort to provide jobs for the youth, fight crimes and boost Abia State’s economy, Governor Theodore Orji has inaugurated a 6-man advisory committee to revive the moribund Aba Textiles Mills. Speaking while inaugurating the committee, Governor Orji said the action was in line with his promise to reactivate moribund industries in the state. According to him, the reactivation of the textile mill will boost business and employment and restore the glory of Aba as the Japan of Africa. The governor urged members of the committee to come up with ideas on how to revive the mill. He also expressed the hope that inauguration of the committee would mark a new dawn for the industrial revolution of Abia State, saying he would make Aba the Dubai of Nigeria. He explained that he carefully selected the committee members with wide knowledge of textile business to ensure the success of the project. The governor also disclosed that the committee handling the reactivation of Golden Guinea Breweries was making appreciable progress and hoped that the project would be realized before he left office. Orji regretted that Aba Textile Mills had been abandoned by successive governments but assured that his government could not afford to allow the company die. In his remark, chairman of the committee, Mr. Godwin Osuala, thanked the governor for finding them fit to serve and assured that the committee would do its best to revive the company which provided employment to about 1500 workers when it was functioning in 2000. Osuala, however, urged the governor to provide the committee with the necessary logistics to work with. www.vanguardngr.com/2011/07/orji-sets-up-cttee-to-revive-aba-textlile-mills/ |

He is pretending to be busy. Over the years they have been many committes set up on this subject matter. They must have reports. Why not get them and study those reports? Waste of money once again on endless committes. |

Orji is a f00l and the biggest thief. He has has bought half of Umuahia for himself. You though the other Orji was bad, this one is even worse and lacks ideas. Abia has seen no change. |

A public-private partnership could make this work. There is a market for textile products by default, there are millioniares and billionaires in Ariaria Market already doing well in the textlie business which the Government can liaise with. I don't see why this can't work. Let the committe not work in isolation, if they do that they will surely fail. But if they seek wise counsel, investment and support from those already profiting from the business then they can learn how to produce products that can fairly compete with imported textiles. Banning import was never the answer, now someone is beginning to think of a more practical solution. |

The textile mill should be privatized. Government has no business selling textiles! |
