Iran: Court overturns death sentence for christian pastor.
Iran's supreme court has overturned a death sentence handed down to Yusef Nadakhani, a Christian pastor accused of apostasy for having converted from Islam, his lawyer told AFP on sunday, "The supreme court has annuled the death sentence and sent the case back to the court in Rasht(his hometown), asking the accused to repent," Mohammad Ali Dadkhah said. Nadarkhani, now 32, converted from Islam to Christianity at the age of 19 and became a pastor of a small evangelical community called the church of Iran. He was arrested in October 2009 and condemned to death for apostasy under Iran's Islamic Sharia laws, which however allow for such verdicts to be overturned if the convicted person "repents" and renounces his conversion. After his conviction was upheld by an appeal court in Gilan province in September 2010, Nadarkhani turned to the supreme court. His wife, who was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, was released on appeal.


Its sad that in this present day such a thing is still happens, what happened to freedom of worship?. This simply shows that islamic law(sharia) is intolerant of other religions. If sharia were allowed to exist in all the northern states of Nigeria will there be freedom of worship for other beliefs? How are we sure that those who choose to convert to Christianity wont be unlawfuly arrested and sentenced to death? Lets tell ourselves the truth on nairaland! Can sharia exist peacefuly in Nigeria without clashing with our constitution and impeding on the rights of individuals?!.

This is the crux reason why islamization of northern nigeria cannot be possible because there are many convert up north who are indigen. persecution wil be the order of the day and consequences will be catastrophic

@ Jimmysho, u just said my mind. Yet northern muslims claim Islam is a religion of peace. When i was serving as a corper in the north we(corpers) couldn't consume alcohol in public, we had to travel to neighbouring christian villages to drink, and even when we drink at home we had to be discreete to avoid the wrath of the villagers. And yet this country is for all of us.
