American Dual-Citizenship Rules

The American government allows an individual to have dual citizenship, which means he is a citizen of the United States and of another country at the same time. A person becomes a citizen of two countries either by choice or by automatic operation of the law. While dual citizenship offers advantages such as residency in two countries or access to government programs, it may impose additional burdens on the dual national such as tax obligations. A person who has dual citizenship must be aware of the responsibilities that go with it.

Acquiring Foreign Citizenship
An American citizen may acquire another nationality by marriage to a foreigner if she chooses to also become a citizen of her husband's country. A person who has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship from her country of birth provided that that country allows dual citizenship. An individual may also acquire dual citizenship by being born in the U.S. to immigrant parents or by being born in a foreign country to one parent who is a U.S. citizen and another parent who is a foreign national. The U.S. laws do not require an individual to choose only one citizenship.

Losing U.S. Citizenship
An individual who is automatically granted a foreign citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship, but there are situations where he may lose it. U.S. immigration law states that an American citizen will lose his citizenship if he obtains foreign citizenship with the intention of relinquishing his U.S. citizenship, joins the armed forces of a country hostile to the United States, serves as an officer of a foreign state, accepts employment with the government of another country of which he is a citizen, formally renounces his citizenship within the U.S. or before a U.S. consular officer abroad, or is convicted of treason.

Allegiance
A person with dual citizenship must obey the laws of the United States and the foreign state because she owes her allegiance to both countries. To make entering and leaving the United States. easier, a dual national must use a U.S. passport. A foreign country may also require a dual national to use its passport when traveling to its country.

Assistance Abroad
While the United States allows dual citizenship, it does not encourage it because of problems that may arise when the dual national is in a foreign land. The United States has the duty to help its citizens when they need assistance abroad. But the claims of another country on an American citizen with dual nationality may conflict with U.S. laws, therefore limiting U.S. efforts to assist him. Generally, a foreign government has greater claims to the allegiance of the dual national who is in its territory.

You pretty much answered your own questions. What else do you need? wink

Only a fool would do such a thing.
Just as you would not join forces to fight your native land, why would you join forces against your other country you have sworn allegiance to? undecided
You just can't go to war against the great United States of America with your other passport.
That would be like cutting your nose to spite your face.

A small price to pay actually. Push come to shove, GERRRRRRRRRRID of the other passport and keep only the one that pays you better. cool
Then, don't go to countries the US has warned you about concerning civil unrest, terrorism or human rights violation practices.

NIGERIA INCLUSIVE!

Thank you! kiss

Just being curious if after renouncing his British citizenship can one still be entitled to live in Britain just as a permanent resident at a later date?

I highly doubt it!!!

It turns out you really don't need to renounce it afterall

But tax issues,  you pay taxes to the US no matter where you work (Bullshit!!)

Don't renounce it you brit citizenship you may need it. The American citizenship doesn't require you to renounce other citizenship
