post=112597267: Well, DISCOS have to pay staff, and pay for improvements, and they cannot do that with their hands tied behind their back in the name of cheap power prices set by government. 1 Like 1 Share |

henrykene:. I actually do something completely different, by the way, but then again..... Our electricity distribution company is full of greedy fools that came from hell. Yes, because they cannot set their own prices, and because some of their customers , rich and poor and government, don't pay...so they would be greedy kind of... After all, if you ran a business selling shoes , and 40 percent of your customers don't pay, and most of the remainder pay at prices below what you bought the shoes for, you would be as greedy as a disco.... |
Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by Nobody: 8:04am On May 07, 2022 |
harmargedon: Yes, because when government rules force you to charge at a loss, not at a profit, plus 30-40% of your customers are not paying, including those who can pay ten times over....you won't make much of a profit to fix things up, take care of staff welfare, and have something left over ..... Charge at a loss, you get what you charge for. |
Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by harmargedon: 8:13am On May 07, 2022 |
subsidywise18:I use a prepaid Meter, the charges have gone up. The people would care less about the price if they are given 24hrs power supply. But you and I know that if we pay Times ten of the current charges, we can never have steady electricity till 3046. 1 Like |

Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by Nobody: 8:20am On May 07, 2022 |
harmargedon: Well, if the sector is allowed to set its tarrifs, plus everyone pays...they would have enough money within 5 years to improve supply to existing customers. The GSM sector was allowed to set its own prices, and today we have home internet, and can make international and national calls from most everywhere (am old enough to recall when most Nigerians had to go to a phone exchange to make calls, local and international, and a phone was a luxury)...because they could make enough of a profit to build all those antennae and lay all those cables across the country...ie build up infrastructure. The power sector 1.Cannot set its prices. 2.Is forced by law to charge at a loss 3.A significant percentage of consumers don't pay.(even with meter...ye can bypass them. Meanwhile, you cannot use your phone without paying , and the era of cheats is over, and even if you use a cheat, you pay heavily in the future for it). So expecting them to give 24/7 power is very impossicant...when they aren't even earning enough money to pay local taxes, among other things. We have poor power supply because we paid for it. When we are ready to pay market price for power, like we do for GSM, and foodstuff in the market, we would get it steady. |

subsidywise18:as long as transmission is still controlled by the government, electricity will never be stable. |
Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by Nobody: 8:31am On May 07, 2022 |
harmargedon: TCN relies on the discos to get most of its income....which means they are affected by all i have said. (They may get a subvention from government, but much of their revenue comes from what the discos pay to them for transmission..and disco income is low....as stated in me previous posts. ). |

Do you still want to approve it? Why are you people insensitive to our plight? When is the government going to increase salary? When will the salary be regular? Why are you people self-centered? Workers celebrated workers day of recent without salary? One of you had been paying percentage salary since he became governor, his people are dying but he has #100m to obtain presidential form.. |

subsidywise18:provide prepaid meter for all, and charge what you want to charge. Allow fair competition and not the monopoly they enjoy. Then let the consumers choose how much power they want to use and pay for,and who they want to serve them. Shikena. |
Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by Nobody: 10:19am On May 07, 2022 |
mazinaija: Which is kind of what they are doing via MAP. Even then, the law allowing NERC to set the price needs to go. Allow fair competition and not the monopoly they enjoy. It's a good idea, and I even think they should let DISCOS compete against each other in their territory...eg, I don't like what IKEJA DISCO charges, but since KEDC charges cheaper, I get my Ikeja DISCO meter replaced with a KEDC meter, and voila! I pay less. Then let the consumers choose how much power they want to use and pay for,and who they want to serve them. Shikena. Yes, but at the end of the day, the DISCOS need to be in charge of the tarrif setting, not NERC...so that they can make the profits to fix things. Power ain't cheap. |

jospepper:No improvement in power supply. Just imagine sending an estimated bill of n9000 for 2hrs of light the month of March. An increase of over n2000 for February when the power supply was a little better than March |
