Why Did Russia Invaded Czechoslovakia In 1968? by VOICEofORIENTAL: 12:44pm On May 07, 2022
Russia's invasion of Czechoslovakia,a member of the Warsaw treaty organization, in August of 1968,was not to de-nazify or to stop Czechoslovakia from joining Nato, neither were the Czechs killing the Russians living in Czechoslovakia.

Russia invaded Czechoslovakia its own Warsaw pact member in 1968, purposely because the new elected leader, Alexander Dubcek, was massively reforming the country as demanded by the Czechs,at a protest processing in Prague, popularly known as the" PRAGUE SPRING".

Russia mobilized its Warsaw pact members such as; Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria & the then East Germany.Romania & Albania refused to be part of that invasion, citing that it's morally wrong to invade a member country by its own members.. Albania later withdrew their membership a year after in 1969.

It should be noted that Russia's main reason for that invasion was primarily down to communism against Democracy... THE BREZHNEV DOCTRINE" was invoked for this atrocious venture.

Leonid Brezhnev was the Russian leader who introduced this doctrine... THAT RUSSIA WOULD INTERVENE AGAINST ANY COUNTRY MOSCOW CONSIDERS A THREAT TO COMMUNIST/SOCIALIST RULE IN EASTERN EUROPE.

Czechoslovakia was a full member of the defunct Russia-led Warsaw pact.

The Czechs were not killing the Russians neither were they accused of being Nazi.

Finally, to those justifying Russia's invasion of Ukraine: WHY DID RUSSIA INVADED CZECHOSLOVAKIA HER OWN WARSAW PACT MEMBER,IN AUGUST 20 1968?

To keep the buffer in place.

Every Russian leader knows , or if they don't know, they learn, that to keep Russia safe, you have to have enough of a buffer around you.

Stalin learned that the hard way when Nazi Germany invaded in 41. That's why the Russians moved the border west. At the Berlin wall. To protect their nation from being invaded by the US and NATO.

Russia has always been surrounded by hostile invaders, especially from the West.

It does not make Russian invasions of Czechoslovakia and Ukraine right though.

P.S : Russia almost invaded Poland in 1981. The then Polish leader Jarulzeski held them off by declaring martial law, and demonstrating to Breshnev that he was still in control, and the reformers of Solidairty weren't.(Russia also wanted to make a potential invasion of Poland a joint Warsaw pact project...which would have seen troops from East Germany on polish soil...which won't have gone down well...bad memories)

Many guys on this forum had been justifying Russia's invasion of Ukraine that,Ukrainians were killing the Russians.. that Ukraine want to join Nato.. that Russia want to denazify Ukraine.

So what's the justification for invading Czechoslovakia, her own Warsaw pact member in 1968?

It cannot be Iraq.

I think the best way to secure yourself, family & your community is to be friendly to your immediate neighbors, not by flexing your muscles against them.

This is one area Russia has failed woefully.. you don't force people man/woman to be your friend. You first of all become a good friend to your neighbors, they would in turn become your security.

Because the US invaded Korea in 1950

Because the US invaded Korea in 1950
It's no more joining Nato...or de-nazifying Czechoslovakia..or killing of Russians in Czechoslovakia, now it's because of Korea?

Which US are you talking about? Because it was north Korea backed & supported by Russia & China that invaded south Korea, after crossing there border (the 38th parallel line).

Before the north Korean leader invaded his southern brother,he went to Moscow & got permission from Joseph Stalin the then Russian leader. The Chinese also sent their soldiers to help the communist north of Korea.

The south of Korea had no option than to ask US for help.. the US went to South Korea to defend her from being occupied by the Russia/China led north Korea.

Is it enough reason to invade your own Warsaw pact member?.. how many Nato members has US invaded since its formation in 1949?

Why is that only Russia is celebrating May 9 as victory day not all former Republics?
Why is that Russia becomes ussr in UNSC?
USSR was part of Russian expansion agenda. Just like Arab world is still using Islam to influence the world. Russia used communism to influence the world in the name of USSR.

Was it Russia or USSR?
Learn that first and don’t give that shit of USSR is Russia when only most of USSR leaders are non Russian.
USSR is made up of at least 10 countries

Breznev who was the leader of the USSR when the soviet union invaded Czechoslovakia was even a Ukrainian.

Abeg leave the Op jare, evidence from his writeup and comments suggests that he opened this thread to create Argumentative observations.

There was Russia existing in USSR.Russia was the founding father of the USSR.

The Bolshevik communist party, led by Vladimir Lenin during the Russian revolution overthrew the Czar Nicholas II in 1917.In the year ahead, Lenin entered a treaty with some countries that formed the USSR in 1922 with its capital Moscow.

USSR was all about Russia: Russia was a big country before it invited other smaller countries around her...

The capital of USSR was Moscow,a city in Russia before the formation of USSR.

The Russian Ruble was the legal tender the USSR used all through their existence.

The Russian Kremlin, was in use all through the years USSR lasted.

The Russian Bolshevik communist party introduced communism into USSR.

The USSR was like a man who built a house & invited other's so that they can become more stronger.
Every thing USSR was about Russia.

Those countries Russia invited into USSR had all left, yet Russia retained & maintained all the characteristics of the USSR.

Your analogy is WRONG! That’s like saying the United States is all about state of DC and everybody else were just part of it to be stronger.

How come they had past presidents from other part of the Union, with your idea one would easily take it that USSR was all about the Russian empire.

Joseph Stalin was from todays Georgia, he’s not ethnic Russian. Leonid Brezhnev Is from current day Ukraine also a part president of the USSR. I can continue to list for you.

Bottom line: USSR is USSR, Russia empire was Russian empire, Russia republic is another thing. USSR doesn’t have a common language, they have languages.

The idea that Russia retained the characteristics of the USSR is another mumu lie by the media. Past Russian republic leaders including Putin all begged to join all West’s unions including EU and NATO.
The west need a new enemy after USSR got separated, so we named Russia the new enemy. The west naming Russia our new enemy has got nothing to do with USSR’s characteristics.
We just need a new enemy to get our military industry continuous funding, and expand our political influence.
It’s just a geopolitical strategy, in reality. The Russia republic is more capitalist than any USSR or The Russian empire that was controlled by the Tzars.

There’s a 3hrs documentary by a Columbia university professor on YouTube who he talked about how the west made the current Putin. Putin use to be a pro-west kinda guy, he’s fascinated with the West. The west push things to the extreme to creat this monster that we have today. In as much as I don’t most of Trumps policies, he emphasized on this.

We can all thrive in peace in this world.

Even Obama said at the beginning of the Ukraine war that “a lot has changed about the Putin he knew while in office”

The same way Russia was picked as a new enemy, China has been added to the list too.

Now don’t quote me again. Have a good week.
