The Russian ruble is the world's top performing currency in 2022, as it's up 11% against the dollar.
Amid wartime sanctions, Moscow has imposed capital controls to prop up its economy and currency.
But currency traders are about to stop using the onshore exchange rate for some transactions.
The Russian ruble has turned into the world's best-performing currency this year, as its onshore rate is up more than 11% against the US dollar so far in 2022.

The ruble is the biggest gainer among 31 major currencies, according to data tracked by Bloomberg, and has overtaken the Brazilian real, which is up 9% this year.

But the ruble's advance has come after Moscow imposed a slate of capital controls to prop up the economy to offset Western sanctions for its war on Ukraine. That means few investors are able to take profits from the currency rally out of Russia.

The capital controls are in addition to Russia demanding ruble-payments for natural gas supplies from European nations, as well as forcing exporters to sell foreign-exchange holdings.

Nonetheless, the success of the Kremlin's artificial market maneuvers has outperformed those of other nations like Argentina and Turkey when they attempted similar measures.

But currency traders are about to stop using the onshore exchange rate for some transactions as the strict capital controls have produced a bigger spread compared to the offshore ruble rate.

The Russian economy depends largely on commodities that they have a near monopoly of and to which the rest of the world needs.

Their other major exports are military hardware which they have zero competition in terms of pricing since Russian military tech is low on prices and very cheap to maintain and operate. They only barrier to Russian military exports are the US and UK who mount diplomatic and economic pressure on intending buyers to boycott Russian armament.

That said, the Russian economy is purely a commodity based economy which is far stable even with sanctions than a liquidity based economy like that of the US.

By thinking cutting Russia from international trade via SWIFT and also seizing Russian foreign reserves held in western banks, the idiots in the US, UK and EU did not know they shot themselves on the foot .

Russia simply left the worthless fiat dollars for them and turned to key allies notably China and India.

These two nations account for 30℅ of the earth's population and they will be needing Russian gas, oil, arms and wheat.

From every indicator so far, the Russians are doing gloriously well in this war.

Their economy is booming and countries with sensible and visionary leaders are gyrating towards the Russian orbit.

If you choose to believe the lies from Rothschild's Reuters which the likes of Nairaland and Linda Ikeji reproduce and peddle, you will assume the Russians are doing badly but that is far from the truth given the kind of support Ukraine has and the limiting presure the RF can deploy.

Russia is fighting to liberate their brothers in western Ukraine from the corrupt Jewish oligarch govt of Kiev.

They not only have to consider collateral damage but also provide humanitarian services. The Ukrainians are not concerned with the civilian population since they have been waging a genocidal war on them since 2008!
