AGONY OF DEBORAH YAKUBU

Our normal life but heated this time

Virtual argument it was

Free I thought I was

Not until they came

Like warriors of Spartacus

Yelling like spectators in a battle arena

With woods, planks and rocks

Never knew it was me they were coming for

I would run to the ends of earth

To the desert plain I would hide

Oh! Ignorant me

I was dragged like a cow into abattoir

Dramatic role I thought I was playing

I would rather tell the director I quit than the pay

Serious than I expected

Help me! Help me! Help me! I shouted, but my killers shadows caged my voice

Dad was far to hear my dying voice

Nobody held my hands for rescue

Saw little of people taking shots of me instead of pleading my case

Oh Alas! Divine intervention I prayed

"I am sorry" was last they could hear

Nothing came than I thought

Friends ran like cheetah for safety

Stone her! Stone her! Stone her!, My inner ear heard

The sharp pain on my head was like that of a fiery coal

Stones were melted on me like a cursed Jew

I lost my strength and energy to survive

My tears rained blood

Like a wounded leopard I fell

My breath I tried holding to survive

Stones were still melted on me like hailstone on Sodom

My body felt much to little pain

Then cold came, so cold that the pain vanished

Oh! I wish it was ordinary cold my blanket could heal

I knew consciousness was leaving me

I prayed for peace of mind

Yes, peace came as I slept peacefully!

Well just go and thank Lord Lugard, if not you will be receiving relief materials somewhere in Katangoro.

Take consolation in that the LORD is GOD and he shall be exalted forever.
Rest in God's peace, Deborah Samuel!
