Hello everyone. I remember opening a thread sometime in August 2020 about my addiction to sports betting and how it has finished me totally

https://www.nairaland.com/5996073/need-bet9ja-finished-life

The link is above.

I got so many comments and messages; both positive and negative. Some even messaged me privately with promises to follow my matter up. I discovered that the power to stop betting laid solely in my hands and I took action.

I sincerely want to thank everyone for their advice and suggestions. To the glory of God, I've overcome that addiction and I no longer play sports virtual betting anymore. There have been significant changes in my life.

I have also been able to offset my debts totally. The peace of mind I have these days cannot be explained. I remember I made mention of the face that I owed a particularll guy over a hundred thousand naira; I have been able to pay that debt wholly. I am at peace now with myself and my environment.

I have looked back and that is why I have decided to share my story and how I overcame this addiction.

I want to encourage as many as are passing through the same challenge. You will definitely overcome it as you follow my story.

The mods should please helpe push to front page as this will help a lot of people who are struggling at the moment.

The worst addictions to overcome ever are
1. Masturbation
2. Betting / gambling
3. Drug
4. Smoking/drinking
5. Womanizing ..

If you are able to overcome any of the above expecially the first 3, there’s nothing in this world that can bring you down ..

I used to bet around 2016-2018, I think I stopped February 2019..
Omo any small money like this , na to stake o,
Infact, It got to a point whereby I stick to 2odds,
I’ fit win in 3 roll then enter loosing streak for one month straight ….,
Betting is very bad that you will always see people who don’t bet as mumu , ironically you’re the mumu , living on false hope that you’ll turn dangote overnight ..

Virtual

You do know that virtual is computerized (programed) gaming? There is no way you can beat a computer program unless it allow you to do so.

Those still playing virtual are ignorant.
What about those who are very much aware of this truth yet are still addicted to it like childofdoom?
Re: How I Overcame My Addiction To Virtual Sports Betting by rukz: 12:52pm On May 20, 2022
Gatekeepers:
There are three legitimate ways to get money. First, you can work for it. (II Thessalonians 3:10) Second, you can make money through wise investments. (Luke 19:1-27) Third, you can receive a gift or an inheritance. (II Corinthians 12:14) There is no fourth category.

So betting no be work oo, because you only hopes to make money without working at all. Betting is not an investment, because you only creates an artificial risk hoping to make easy money. Bettingng is not a gift, because the money is won from the losers, not given as a gift.

We have to ask God to teach us contentment with what we already have.

Do you really believe that God will take care of all your needs all the time? If the answer is yes, then you don’t need to help him out by gambling. If the answer is no, then your problems is bigger than that of a gambler with his ticket!

They don't know. They think it's luck.

As a computer program, If I sit such a person down and programmatically explain virtual gaming to them (by example). They will run away from it.

There is no addiction to virtual (according to me), what we have are people who think they know the system and can beat it (by luck or experience).

If you look at OP post, he is talking about it using the word "evil". That is ignorance and goes to show you that he doesn't truly know what he is up against.

Am refering to those who are aware but still find it difficult to quit.

people like ''childofdoom" who has been into it since 2015.

Sorry I mixed your quote with that of another person.

What I can tell you is that I have been opportuned to meet people like OP in about four to five situations. I explained how virtual works. I went further to create a simple game that simulate virtual.

I gave them the admin control to tweak the outcome. Long story short, they thanked me and never played virtual again (according to them).

Addiction is real I understand that. But when it comes to virtual, I believe it is ignorance that is manifesting in people.

I have to say this nevertheless,
The best way to overcome an addiction is by replacing it with another addiction.

I am used to many addiction but gradually they're nearly all been replaced.

Tramadol=====Aspirin intake
Masturbation=== Try getting used to smoking and alcohol
Brothel and ashawo=== fall in love with football and spend most of your times at viewing cents
Addicted to porn===try having an up to date playlist of songs and try listening to them frequently.
Addicted to gamble=== start up a savings box or piggy vest and set a daily target
Addicted to phone and Internet==subscribe your cable TV and spend most of your Times watching movies.

Good luck
This your advice goes two ways anybody that follows it will end up being depressed

This was how betting became a cancer in my life. I began to stake with the hope of getting big returns in seconds.
In my church, I was the treasurer of the youth department which gave me access to the departmental funds. I used the funds from the youth department to play virtual games with the hope of winning and replacing them back. I was just digging a big hole for myself and incurring debts upon debts.

I remember a particular youth week where we were to contribute money for a particular project for the church. As the treasurer, I was the one in charge of the funds which ran into over one hundred and fifty thousand naira. I spent the whole money at a sitting, playing virtual betting.
The issue got out of hand and that was how my parents discovered that I was a serial gambler. I lost the trust my parents had for me though they ended up paying up that money with me promising that I'd never gamble again. I made that promise but went back after a week.

There was a certain time I won 963,000 naira correct score. I will never forget. I was literally a mad person that day. There was nobody that I did not give money on that day. As at the very next day after winning, I had just a little over 100,000 naira in my account. If you ask me what I used the money for, I cannot explain till date. The 100k plus was spent in bet9ja shop the next day with the hope of winning more. I lost it all and even ran into debt again which I couldn't pay. This time around, I had to forfeit my laptop.

Fast forward to my university days. This was when I had the worst experiences in my life which almost killed me.

I gained admission into one of the prestigious universities in the South Western part of Nigeria. I was a very happy guy when I got that admission. But I never knew that the worst was waiting for me in my gambling life.

When I gained the admission, I was trying to stop my gambling habit but along the line, I met a 'friend'. I will call him Segun. Segun was not my friend per se but circumstances brought us together. He was about 10 years older than me and a married man as well with a child. Segun had a bet shop and I used to play games there. What even made us closer was the Covid-19 period during the lock down. I refused to travel home during that early Covid lock down in 2020 and stayed back at school.

As I'm writing this story, I'm filled with regrets because I should have traveled home that period had I known.

Segun had accommodation issues during that time and asked to stay with me for a while which I accepted. Overtime, we became very close friends and he told me a lot about betting and how it works. He even taught me how to stake higher. For example, if I play all board over 4.5 goals and play it "3 to come", I will stake 2,400 and have the possibility of winning higher. This is in contrast with the normal "2 to come" that I will stake with 900 naira. Gamblers will understand what I'm saying 100%

I never knew that all what he was doing was to work on my mind so that I will patronise him that period as there was a total lock down and shops were not allowed to open.
I was the only customer he had then as we used to play it right there in my room.

In my first two days, I played games worth 80,000 naira and lost. I can't forget. It was like a film trick to me. Segun didn't complain and I foolishly went ahead and continued to play on while damning the consequences. My mind was just focused on winning and I never won any substantial money. This was how I played until I ran into debts of over 400,000 naira in the hands of Segun.

Then my sleepless nights and worries began.
