D.Mark Seeks Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Flooded Areas In Lagos by aljharem3: 8:51pm On Jul 14, 2011
The Senate President, Senator David Mark on Thursday pushed for the declaration of a State of Emergency in areas affected by last weekend torrential downpour in Lagos and other parts of the country.
He explained that the move is geared towards assisting the affected areas in line with the global practices.
The Senate President, who spoke at the end of the motion on Flood Disaster in Lagos State, moved by Senator Ganiyu Solomon, said the Federal Government should be ready to use the ecological fund to assist the affected states in their time of needs.
He also called on states to be more prepared for such disasters by alerting the federal government in good time.
The senate also urged the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NMASA) to remove all wrecked ships from Nigeria’s water ways.
The upper legislative chamber later observed a minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives as a result of flood.

First the PDP ask for the Fashola to resign and now D.Mark(PDP member) pushes for a declaration of emergancy in lagos which in its accordance, the governor will have to be removed. Funny people. At least push to declare one in Borno to make it less obvious, lol. ACN is under attack. What una go do! grin

Does state of emergency = removing governor as well?

No. . . But it interferes with their governing. Similar to what happens in the US. Remember Katrina?

How about a state of emergency in boko haram infested areas? undecided
Re: D.Mark Seeks Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Flooded Areas In Lagos by ektbear: 9:16pm On Jul 14, 2011
It is hard for me to blame the slowness in dealing with Katrina on the state of emergency. More George Bush's incompetence (remember the birthday cake incident?)

Anyway, at least in theory (with an honest government) a declaration of a state of emergency should help rather than hurt.
Re: D.Mark Seeks Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Flooded Areas In Lagos by Nobody: 9:16pm On Jul 14, 2011
What is Nigeria's priority?

State of emergency in flooded area, no state of emergency in Boko Haram states.

Haven't you heard that David Mark can be anti-South?

He believes that State of Emergencies should be called in the South, but refuses the same to happen in the North.

David Mark is pro-David Mark, not really anti anything. At least this is my read of him grin

Wonders shall never end - Mr. David Mark has a voice afterall. Now he can bark at Fashola for an act of God, while hiding in his "closet" from Boko Haram.

I guess the state of emergency will enable our esteemed Senate President to go down to Lagos, fill his pot belly with flood waters and then release it in the ocean in one go.

I hope Abuja gets one month's rain in one day and flood all of them away (seriously). Then the people of this country can finally declare a state of emergency on bad administrators.

A state of emergency only happens when the capacity of a state governor to handle the situation is demolished, but only if Federal intervention would be any better. A Federal Government that cannot construct a single dual carrage road in 12 years is trying to take over from the best governor in Nigeria today. Fashola is probably doing more work than GEJ, his Ministers, and the useless & impotent parliament combined. Selling our resources and dividing the loot is not work - FYI Mr. David Mark.

Obviously, the Borno governor has lost control of his state and needs a state of emergency, but dear comrade David Mark is too scared - I suppose.

And in what ways has the Lagos State Govt. failed to address this natural disaster? Compared with other nations of the world we suffer little or no natural disasters(in the real sense); what we suffer more than other nations of the world combined is "human disasters," like Dheveed Mar.k!

Foolishness,  He wants to speak for Lagosian, As if he really cares, When it comes to Flood, which is not our real problem, they want to be heard, as though they care for the poor who has been at the receiving end of their Un-parliamentary representation Visionless men, band of men overtaken by fraud and moral turpitude, Myopic Politician, Irresponsible adolescent, irreligious clerics, the Pain of our contradictions, the cause of our woes, zealous errand boys who regard not their Lords (The People)
He must speak for us on Flood,
He would not, for Bad roads,
He must be heard because God sent rain,
But they will not correct the anomalies of their abnormal affluence in the face of national poverty and collective embarrassing shame called Nigeria
They will be quick on flood because they really would do nothing about it
But they will not talk of “Nepa” or “Power Holding”
They have not made any tangible marks on “Boko Haram” Yet without shame they want to comment on Flood, from Abuja
Or maybe his concerns are his Mansion at Ikoyi or Lekki and not really about the people in Ijora or Ikorodu.
Now that he has spoken, are the roads repaired, are the drainages ensured?
All they do is talk………………………,  Since I was born in this shame
A house is indeed not a Home, Nigeria is still a house with these confused men
Medicines after death, whereas, the death was caused by their negligence,
Thank you our lawbreakers

Sometimes, some men should just keep queit

Why is it so difficult for the FG to declare a state of emergency in Borno with all the crises going on there. I remember how they were quick to declare a state of emergency in ekiti state simply because of a little problem.

I hope you guys read the comments made by mark very well.
He only insinuated more fund from ecological funds to be released to parts of Lagos state
that were flooded in the past few days for rapid development and amelioration.
He was not asking for total state of emergency in terms of anarchy.

Please let us read articles well before criticizing.
