Governor Proffers Solution To Moral Decadence

The Rivers State governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, has called for a tripartite arrangement between government, the church and the family in the fight against criminality and moral decadence in the society.

The governor gave the advice at the ordination of Dr Sam Amaga, as the archbishop of the Foundation Faith Church, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.

Omehia, who pointed out that the war against anti-social elements involves everybody, said the state government was willing to partner with churches in the rendering of services and to curb criminality in the region.

According to him, the issue of cultism and other related crimes requires the collective effort of the government, the church and the family to tackle.

Omehia commended Archbishop Amaga on his elevation and described it as a mark of recognition for hard work and steadfastness in the service of God.

In his message read at the ceremony, Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, said that Federal Government recognizes the indispensable role of religion in the lives of its citizens, as a change agent and an instrument for moral reorientation.

The vice president said Nigeria as a secular sovereign nation, has two great religions - Christianity and Islam - that would continue to define the lives and values of the majority of Nigerians for the upliftment of society.

Jonathan, who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Vice President on Development and Cooperation, Mr. Olufemi Ajayi, advised religious groups to assess their role of moral rearmament and reorientation of the society.

He affirmed that religion serves as an instrument for the upliftment of the educational standards of the nation, as products of missionary schools demonstrated, while private universities established recently by various religious denominations have shown excellence in several fields of knowledge.

Besides, Jonathan urged churches to engage in capacity building, job creation and health promotion for better and more productive lives, and support the government through prayers to ensure peace and stability.

He advised the new Archbishop not to relent in his pursuit of truth for the good of mankind through the vision of building peaceful communal relationship and encouragement of social work.

It is not proper for you to insult him here. His Local Church gave him a nighthood sometime ago.
He is one time gov of Rivers state. Respect please.

The goverments and the leaders are the epitomes of moral decadence in nigeria.

They are so at home with looting,maiming and stealing,to the that they are beginning to convince themselves they are not commiting immoral acts.Therefore,they can teach people morality.
