Windows 7 On 512mb Ram by chux76(m): 5:25pm On Jul 18, 2011
Is it advisable to run windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell D600 laptop with config: 512MB RAM,60GB HDD,1.7ghz PROCESSOR? Pls advice.
Re: Windows 7 On 512mb Ram by denzel2009: 6:57pm On Jul 18, 2011
No, the minimum RAM for windows 7 is 1Gb, not that won't work on 512mb but it'd be extremely slow. Why don't you look for Windows tiny 7, that's designed for those machines with low performance capability.

can you scroll back up and read my response again. why won't it serve you well when you only switch it on and off. You try and run any meaningful application on it and you see BSOD.

@Denzel,pls explain what you mean by meaningful application, could you pls enumerate applications that would have difficulties running on it. I do heavy downloads and I also trade forex,so i would like to know if it wont be a problem.

Windows 7 has a light memory footprint that's why some people can install and browse on their laptop albeit at snail speed. If you are running vista, and on 512mb, you'll have to travel from Lagos to Ibadan before your computer gets to the login page.

If you want to trade forex on your laptop, I'd strongly advise you to add another 512mb RAM. That would reduce the the possibility of your computer freezing when you are trading cos your OS will allocate some of the 512mb to the FX application and if the fx trading platform requires much more memory, your computer will shut down or crash.

Click CNTRL+SHIFT+ESC together to see how windows addresses memory.

Upgrade to 2GB memory for better performance.

I thought you are in London. I will leave my phone number for you in your gmail box using my gmail so that we can discuss about the cost and the modalities for the exchange. Thanks very much. I will still be online in the next few minutes due to public power supply constraint.

I'm not sure if its good for gaming but it was designed by a group called eXperience for people with low system specs. I will send you the iso link later.
