Customs impound 10,865 kegs of petrol at Seme

The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Command, said it impounded 10,865 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit with a Duty Paid Value of N65.6 million from January 2022 to date.

The Customs Area Controller, Seme Command, Comptroller Bello Jibo, gave the figures during a media briefing on the handing over of seized illicit drugs and suppression of smuggling activities on the petroleum product.

Jibo noted that this was in a quest to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians, most especially in the fight against drug trafficking.

The Comptroller handed over 100 cartons of gabadol/tramadol 120mg; 2.8kg and 306 parcels of cannabis sativa; 132 packets of tramadol capsules; 77 packets of tramadol; and several other illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control.

Jibo said, “The continuous surveillance of the beaches and creeks by our men, has yet recorded another huge interception of 1,600 jerry cans of petroleum product, 30 fitres each.”

The arrest was said to have been made in the late hours of Tuesday, June 7, 2022, along Seme-Badagry waterways.

And I can tell you that those figures are exaggerated..

Every sector in the country is now seen as a means to cash out..

Smuggling guns through that border is easier than A B C, talk less of petrol...

This is a big reason why subsidy has to go.

Petrol costs above 300 naira in Benin republic. It costs 165 naira here.

Do the math.

Also every time smuggling of fuel happens it adds extra losses to our budget money.

Venezuela loses 18 billion dollars annually to the same problem. They sell pms at 40 naira..Other countries sell above 400 naira..Do the math

They must have been settling the custom officers before,but ran out of luck today due to one senior officer who doesn't pally with criminality undecided
