It is unfortunate that many Nigerians have not come to understand that Igbos are one of the tribes or races that don't joke with moral uprightness and integrity of a leader.

It is unfortunate that due to the tribal religious sentiments and clash in Nigeria since the 1960, other Nigerians have misunderstood Igbos a lot, especially politically.

It is also unfortunate that after the civil war, which Igbos lost and were thrown into untold hard ship and economic sabotage by the winning Nigerian side made many Igbos to began to resort to crimes and illegal activities that were abhored in Igbo tradition just to survive after the war.

After the war, Igbos lost so much, lost out in Nigerian civil service recruitments, government palliatives and favours, and even lost federal government presence in Southeast which pushed many Igbos that survived the war into criminal life, some began drug trafficking, many left Nigeria in the most harshest condition just to win bread for their starving families in the Southeast.

This is why it looks like most of the Igbos agitating for Biafra and division of Nigeria live abroad, most of them aren't happy doing crime abroad to survive, they wished they had their own Igbo country led by quality Igbo men that will create the enabling environment for them to return and embark on legitimate work, trade, craft and businesses that will help build an enviable black nation.

They want Biafra because they feel other Nigerians prefer the shattered way Nigeria is because when Igbos condemn or try to stop known corrupt people from getting into power other Nigerians sabotage them and misinterpret them and tag Igbos haters or this and that not knowing that what Igbos want is just a working nation that operates purely on merit where everyone gets what they deserve and worked for.

This desire of Igbo youths to correct what they see as societal anomaly was what boxed Igbos in one corner in the Nigerian national politics when some young Igbo soldiers of the 1960 felt they could savage Nigeria from degenerating into an Islamic state by some Islamic extremist politicians like Ahmadu Bello who was using his influence to stiffle Obafemi Awolowo a Christian political leader in Western Nigeria by joining forces with Akintola and using federal might in the hands of Belewa to stiffle Awolowo and even jail him.

These young Igbo soldiers and their few Yoruba and Middlebelt counterpart saw Awolowo as a better leader and decided to take laws into their hands by carrying out a coup to remove Belewa-Zik government to install Awolowo.

Many wondered why they killed Ahmadu Bello and Akintola and spared Michael Okpara the Eastern premier?

Ahmadu Bello and Akintola who were close political allies and presumed Muslim extremists pushing for Islamic dominance in Nigeria as once led by Uthman Danfodio was actually their main target. They killed Belewa out of foolishness and intoxication, they never intended to kill Belewa, only wanted to arrest him, including Akintola who challenged them in a shoot out when they tried to arrest him at his official residence in Ibadan.

Now to my main points of creating this thread.

Igbos have a very high moral standard and only like proven men of integrity who aren't bias or compromised to occupy key leadership positions and that has been the reason other Nigerians misunderstand Igbos but if you look closely without bias you will understand this.

How you may ask? Please calm down and read my next posts below

In the 1960s, the Igbo masses never liked or gave Nnamdi Azikiwe massive support because they believed he wasn't sound enough in his leadership style, they even preferred Obafemi Awolowo to Nnamdi Azikiwe not until the civil war broke out that Igbo masses developed total dislike for Awolowo because of the roles he played on the Nigerian government side during the war by suggesting the food blockade, currency change to block food from reaching Biafra side which played major role in Biafra losing the war as hunger that caused starvation malnutrition and mass death of Biafra children pushed Biafran elites to persuade Ojukwu to go into exile and allow Effiong to surrender Biafra to Nigeria to save Igbo children from further starvation.

Whatever I tell you here please find out time to research it.

Igbos loved, cherished and massively supported Michael Opkara more than Zik because Opkara was a better leader than Zik. Go and verify. That is why you hardly see Igbos celebrate Zik even today.

To help prove this your point with recent data.
Igbo CONSISTENTLY voted against Buhari in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019.
Igbo voted against Buhari even when he ran with Igbo VPs.
Is Buhari not a proven national disaster today?

By comparison, immediately Buhari ran with a Yoruba VP, he got majority of Yoruba votes; pronto he became president!

Imagine people openly campaigning for known rogues today, just because they come from same tribe. undecided

Field Orji Kalu or any of similar people from Igboland and see if Igbo would vote for him. undecided

This is not chest beating, IGBO PEOPLE HATE BAD LEADERS WITH PASSION because those people perpetrate INJUSTICE.

Igbo kind of democracy is OLD, and goes to the very grassroots of "umunna" meetings.

Evil people are NEVER given free reins in Igboland. NEVER.

If Peter Obi even remotely proves lack of integrity today, be rest assured that Igbo will desert him instantly!

Therefore tribalists, please repent for the sake of your unborn generation.

If you are not tired, Igbo are long tired of answering THIRD WORLD country.

Let's join hands to make Nigeria a first world country because that should accommodate everyone's interests.

Abi are you allergic to first class schools, hospitals, industries etc?

Igbos love for Odimegwu Ojukwu

Every Igbo man or woman loves Ojukwu not just because he was the leader of Biafra in the 1960s, but because Ojukwu demonstrated high level of discipline in his leadership right from when he was a junior army officer which made him earn that massive followership and support from Igbos.

Ojukwu hated injustice, Ojukwu wanted total liberation of blacks from the claws of the white colonialists. As a child born into one of the richest black families then, he saw firsthand the greed and wickedness of the whites against blacks. He lived and dined with rich white people from birth and saw their true color which made him challenge a white school headmaster that slapped a Nigerian school girl when Ojukwu was still in secondary school.

Even when Nzeogwu and co carried out the infamous 1966 coup, Ojukwu was completely against it. Ojukwu was enraged and worked to foil that coup and never liked Nzeogwu even after the war broke out which made Nzeogwu to always fought his Biafran battle as an independent force with his own squad he usually went on a reconnaissance hit with. Ojukwu also gave standing order to his guards never to allow Nzeogwu near him because he never trusted Nzeogwu that much due to the role Nzeogwu played in the 1966 January coup.

It is worthy of note to note that Ojukwu never declared war against Nigeria like many were made to believe. What actually caused the civil war was the 1966 Northern pogrom against civilian Igbos living in the North which Gowon refused or couldn't stop even after Ojukwu wrote him severally pleading for a solution as hundreds of igbos were returned back to the east from North as dead corpses when there was no war happening.

Ojukwu being the Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria took it upon himself to defend Easterners from Northern aggression that Gowon's federal government refused to stop just as Buhari's government is doing today about Fulani herdsmen terrorists, kidnappers and bandits killing Nigerians all over.

Ojukwu even took Nigerian government to West African court seeking for solution and after an agreement was reached in Aburi Ghana to end the crises and implement certain policies to bring peace, Gowon returned back to Nigeria and rejected all that he agreed and Ojukwu carried out a wide consultation among Eastern Nigerians via townhall meetings and they agreed to secede and that was how Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria an independent nation of its own called Biafra. This led to Gowon declaring a Police action to forcefully bring back Eastern Nigeria back to Nigeria after British government back Gowon to use force to return Biafra back to Nigeria and the war broke out, first shots were fired.

What point do I have here?

Igbos massively supported Ojukwu because of his high level of leadership discipline and integrity, and support for justice. Nnamdi Azikiwe didn't and wouldn't have enjoyed such massive support.

The Ike Ekweremadu and The Igbo Masses

If you have been following political events in Nigeria for some time now, you will discover that the Igbo masses don't like or support Senator Ike Ekweremadu even though he occupied a key position in Nigeria's government? Why? Igbos don't like nor trust his personality as a leader. Igbos don't see him as a worthy leader to represent Igbos or Nigerians and reason why some group of Igbo men under IPOB attacked him physically in Germany even though he was the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria then.

How then did he became a Senator representing his Igbo senatoria district of Enugu state you may ask?

The same way Hope Uzodinma became Imo State Governor from the back door. Which is where Igbos have been having issues with The Northern politicians controlling Nigerian federal government; they will use their federal political might to install and promote criminals and men with questionable characters in Igbo land to occupy various political positions in Igbo land and represent Igbos thereby giving Igbos bad image and shortchanging the development and security of Southeast region.

This has always been the case and that is why you see charlatans and hoodlums representing Igbos in Nigerian politics both at state and federal levels.

Enugu State people rejected Ike Ekweremadu being their Governor despite him being one of the longest serving senators in Nigeria.

Rochas Okorocha

When Igbos were screaming that they don't like Rochas Okorocha, that he is corrupt, that he does not represent Igbos, many Buhari and APC supporters claimed it was because Rochas joined APC. But Ogbonnaya Onu is an APC member and Igbos don't disapprove of him like Rochas. Emeka Nwajiuba is in APC and Igbos don't disapprove him like Rochas.

Igbos see beyond what others see.

It wasn't long the rest of Nigerians began to see Rochas manifest all the negative things Igbos were screaming about him.

Same applies to Orji Uzo Kalu. Even when he was in PDP, Igbos never have him massive support because they didn't trust his leadership integrity but these corrupt politicians take advantage of the decayed Nigerian political system to remain in power and making other Nigerians to say Igbos elected them.

We don't give a fucking damn of how much money you have due to everyone work hard to fend for himself and family. We are not dependent on anyone

Muhammadu Buhari

Before Buhari ever thought of aligning with the Yorubas in 2014, Buhari's preferred political allies were the Igbos, and this made him pick 2 different Igbos as his running mates yet Igbos refused to vote for him, citing his tribal bigotry and his religious extremism.

Igbos still rejected Buhari in 2015, and even after he got elected as President in 2015, Igbos still stood their ground that Buhari is not fit for Presidential office and rejected him again at the polls in 2019 for the same reason of being a tribal bigot and Islamic religion extremist and Buhari failed to prove Igbos wrong, instead he proved them right beyond imagination.

Igbos see beyond political gimmicks, they study your lifestyle, your approach towards life generally before they can follow you massively. It doesn't matter if you are Igbo or none Igbo.

Goodluck Jonathan that Igbos massively supported was never an Igbo man. Yes he may have made some mistakes during his presidency but Goodluck is a man of integrity, he is compassionate and empathetic.

Prof Yemi Osinbajo the only APC politician that enjoy Igbo people's partial support is not an Igbo man and take it from me, if Osinbajo had won APC ticket, Peter Obi wouldn't be enjoying the massive support he is enjoying now and APC would have won the 2023 election hands down without rigging, but they decided to elect a man with several questionable character and background and they expect Igbos to support him, mbanu.

If Tinubu happens to be an Igbo man, the same way Igbos dislike Orji Uzo Kalu, Rochas Okorocha and co is the same way they would have disliked Tinubu. It has nothing to do with tribe, it has more to do with Tinubu's personality.

Obasanjo that enjoyed Igbo people support during his time is not an Igbo man despite the fact that Obasanjo played key role in the civil war on the Nigerian side.

Charles Soludo

Take a look at Charles Soludo that Igbos so much cherish. Igbos rejected moneybags like Andy Uba and other prominent Anambra sons and decided to elect Charles Soludo a man of integrity. That alone should tell you the kind of people that enjoy Igbo people's general support. Igbos of all states support and cherish Soludo because of his leadership discipline which we pray he sustains.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Her name alone rings bell in the heart of every Igbo person even though people say he doesn't do much in her hometown still she enjoys Igbo people's massive support because of her integrity and leadership qualities.

Ibe Kachikwu

Former Peteoleum Minister. He was in APC and still enjoyed Igbos support. He stood his ground, maintained his integrity and spoke truth to Buhari, that's who Igbos are. You earn their support, you don't buy it even though Nollywood makebelieve films made other Nigerians to see Igbos differently and portray many wrong things about Igbos.

Dr Akinwunmi Adesina

For many years now, Igbos have been hailing and calling for this noble man to join politics and run for presidency or VP. They didn't care if he was in APC or PDP, they just wanted him to run. Yet most Yorubas have been deceived into believing that Igbos hate Yorubas just because Igbos rejected Buhari and now Tinubu who are known men of questionable character who can't stand for truth nor stand for the oppressed without fear or playing politics with human life.

God alone sees our deeds and will judge us all accordingly, that's our prayers

Soo much dishonesty and insincerity.

Let me clarify and debunk a few ;

*Buhari wasn't always picking an Igbo VP. He picked Tunde Bakare once too and he was voted against by Yoruba people in favour of Jonathan in 2011 Presidential elections. So what's exactly your point? Igbos voted against Buhari those years because they already banked on a PDP winning ticket and cannot gamble on Buhari who has a slim chance of winning. When Buhari's path of winning became clearer, He already aligned with SW so it was quite unreasonable to go with him.

*Stop the Lies. Ike Ekweremadu was never hated in Igbo land, if he was hated truly, he won't be winning his re-election since 2003. Just stop it. He didn't win his senate seat through court ruling. Liar.

*Igbos are tribalistic in their voting like every other ethnicity in Nigeria. You are dishonest liar if you disagree. Since 1999 when SE has always voted PDP into Government, you did because you were always a beneficiary. Senate Presidency, SSG, control of strategic ministries and agencies. You overwhelmingly voted against Buhari because you were benefitting immensely from GEJ's Government which you will not get in Buhari's Government.

You can keep deceiving yourself anyway.

Ike Ekweremadu was thoroughly beaten and humiliated in Germany by Igbo people because nobody can touch him in Nigeria.

Go and check also, a guy almost slapped Rochas as a sitting governor while attending an event in London.

Take this to the bank, most Igbo leaders who misbehave in Nigeria technically hide when they travel abroad.

Now I see I am discussing with a youngster who only know the history based on twisted truth.

Do your well good to read the book titled "Why We Struck" written by one of the main coupists who happens to be a bonafide Yoruba son by the name Adewale Ademoyega so you can hear some of the truths from one of the key actors of the January 1966 coup who also is not Igbo.

Ironsi was never part of the coup. Yes he allowed tribal sentiment to becloud his judgment.

No where in the world will Chief of Army Staff of the country carry out a coup when he is in charge.

Ironsi was the Chief of Army Staff and in charge of Nigerian Army so there was no need for him to carry out coup. He and Ojukwu were against the coup and played roles in foiling the coup.

But Ironsi made mistakes of not executing the coupists but rather jailed them. That made the North to believe he was the chief coupist of that unfortunate coup.

Pls try and read why we struck by Ademoyega

If Igbos are tribalistic in voting, they will vote Igbo party fielding Igbo candidate just like Yorubas do.

APGA was more like Igbo party that also fielded a man, Ojukwu that Igbos cherish so much but Igbos refused to vote Ojukwu and APGA and voted for Obasanjo/PDP. But Yorubas who vote mostly based on tribe voted massively for Olu Falae in Yoruba party.

Igbos mostly consider personality first before party.

Ikedi Ohakim Imo Governor that messed up Imo was humiliated by Imo youths and they fought to ensure he didn't win reelection and supported Rochas thinking he would keep his good image before joining politics but Rochas messed up and Igbos rejected him also.

If Obi acts anyhow or try to misuse or abuse the mandate and support people are giving to him now, Igbos will massively desert him.

Igbos don't condone foolish leaders if u are honest. Nothing like permanent king or kingmaker in Igbo land. You must be straightforward and disciplined to enjoy Igbo people's continuous support if not they will turn against you, and that's why none Igbos always say Igbos are not united. Same can't be said about Yorubas who support any Yoruba no matter his history of corruption and misdeeds like Tinubu.

Did you watch how even Tinubu's former enemies that condemned Tinubu's corrupt leadership lifestyle were all stepping down for him and showering praises on him at the just concluded APC primaries? That's the typical way of the Yorubas, they enjoy hero-worshipping no matter the integrity of the so called hero, so long as he is Yoruba, its okay

Guy. These are my points :

* Igbos are tribalistic and ethnocentric like every ethnicity of Nigeria. Denying this is just plain dishonesty.

* Igbos didn't vote APGA, an Igbo party because APGA has no realistic chance of winning Presidency rather you supported PDP with a more realistic chance with your numbers so you can have a seat at the table when the government at the centre is formed. There is a reason ACN hardly wins SW in Presidential elections before APC came. Similar reasons.

* Igbos don't vote incompetent leaders but you voted Ikpeazu and re-elected him. Orji Kali won Governorship and was re-elected too. In fact, he is in Senate now though at least he was voted into Senate despite being in APC.

* I can't really believe you actually believe Yorubas will vote and support another Yoruba on the basis of tribalism. Even after Yorubas had VP, speaker, strategic ministers in APC formed Government. . . APC has never cleared 70% in SW but keep deceiving yourself like I said earlier.

Why are they always voted in and re-elected then??

Ojukwu was a coward. He's the first war leader to run and leave his people he led to an unwinnable war. What a honorable leader will do is to fight and die, he led 2m Igbo's to their death. He never led a battle rather he hid in his bunker.

He later came back to Nigeria. Denounced Biafra , apologized to Nigerians and declared for presidency , he was soundly voted against even by his people. Go to YouTube and watch his interviews, how he expressed his regrets on declaring Biafra

Point number is correct.

But the difference is when it comes to politics and election, Igbos don't vote based on tribe.

It is other tribes now that are awakening Igbos. Or why do you think your people and other Nigerians always sing it like a song that Igbos are not united in politics or that Igbos don't know how to play politics? Simply because Igbos vote based on individual conviction.

Ikpeazu and other foolish political leaders in the east are all products of failed Nigerian government and its electoral system which Igbo masses have been screaming for a change but your people and the North that believe its favoring them refuse to allow positive changes to be made and reason IPOB is agitating for independent state where they can decide the kind of leadership they want without waiting for others that abhor positive change to accept.

Most of the foolish Igbo politicians win their first election on pretense of being good when first joining politics and then they become corrupt and win reelection by rigging which Nigerian system promotes and allows and reason Nigeria need new reformed electoral and judicial systems to put such questionable characters in check

Stop taking history lesson from hearsay and tribal bigots.

Ojukwu didn't ran away. Ojukwu was even persuaded to leave to save Igbos from further death due to starvation causing mass death of Igbo kids.

You don't know the meaning of coward.

Ojukwu is a hero till tomorrow.

No other Nigerian soldier have such guts like the 1960s breed of Igbo soldiers; Nzeogwu, Ojukwu, Onwuatuegwu, Achuzie, etc

Go and ask soldiers of other ethnicity of that Era about these brave Igbo soldiers and hear what they will tell you.

And mind you, Ojukwu did not start the war, his action in 1966 to 1967 saved millions of Igbos from ethnic genocide masterminded by the North.

If not what he did, The north wouldn't have stopped the 1966 pogrom until they get to the East but Ojukwu showed them that Igbos are not to be toiled with.

Check war history accounts by foreign journalists of that war, Nigeria lost more soldiers and combatants than Biafra side. Biafra only lost more civilians and mostly children due to malnutrition and starvation
