Many of the Peter Obi wailers here are just starkly ignorant or completely mischievous or both. Peter Obi advised the sale to GENCOs and Discos who had no money to rescue the system. They made laws to bind the hands of Buhari and Fashola to prevent them from being sacked. How is that the problem of Buhari or Fashola? Peter Obi and his PDP crooks collected bribes and recommended insolvent people to purchase our national assets so as to kill them. And the same Peter Obi is complaining about no light. He is a crook and he is a scammer. We don’t need these crooks as leaders in NIGERIA.
God blessed you a million times

Your mentality is one of the problem of Africans. Peter Obi could just be the solution Nigeria is seeking. Heaven help those who help themselves. It is only a president elected by the people (not vote buying)can be held accountable by the people.

After being in the saddle, "to provide 24 hours electricity is now rocket science" As typical of anything APC, they are always incredibly stupid and irredeemably shameless in the blame game. After being in the saddle, "to provide 24 hours electricity is now rocket science" As typical of anything APC, they are always incredibly stupid and irredeemably shameless in the blame game....

Emeka Offor is doing great with EEDC. The problem now is transmission which government retained. National grid will soon be balkanized. Any region that mismanage their own should blame themselves

Well, I am not obidient, and don't want to vote for him

But the power sector was doing no better under government either.

Also, the reason why the power sector is not working is because government sets their prices(below what it costs to produce one kwh of power). This does not let them make enough of a profit, and as a result, the sector is chronically broke. (unlike the GSM sector, where MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9 mobile can set their price )

There are more complex issues than that. The contractors don’t have money and they are not investing in the system, yet they think they can make quick money from customers to finance the projects. That’s why they charge arbitrarily and refused to provide pre-paid metres. The government cannot sack them without incurring huge costs. The alternative is to use government power to disband them. But that can lead to lack of trust in government by future investors.

And hitting off on your last point, there is the problem that the agreement between the government and the disco/genco operators is basically a contract, and breaking a contract means paying billions (the FG made discreet inquires from the Attorney general about taking over the fdiscos and gencos,s, and the AG told them that it would mean paying a lot of money).

As for making money, the harsh truth about private business is ...they exist to make money. Government kind of made it harder for them by in essence bringing in price controls...which made it difficult for the discos to make enough money...which in turn makes it difficult for them to pay GENCOS and the TCN.

As for meters, there is some effort...but not fast enough. There is also the large problem of people bypassing meters...and ultimately of a large percentage of people not paying for power used.

All in all, discos and gencos are not being run profitably. Unlike GSM...which was run at a profit from the word go...with SIM costing more than N5000 (my first ever sim cost N7000, and that was government MTEL!)....and which was able to use the profit to improve things..and bring down prices (in the early days of GSM, service was awful, wrong numbers happened frequently, and internet did not even exist then...now all that has gone)

Obasanjo was probably smarter than Jonathan or Jonathan was surrounded by fantastically corrupt people. The GMS bidding was done properly by Ibasanjo and those who had money bought the wave bands from regulator. As for electricity deregulation, people like Peter Obi were in the group that recommended investors who were debtors of NDIC. They had no money, no due diligence was done on their capability and capacity. That’s why they are failing. Other issues like taping light, and other teething problems were very minute as compared to poor capability on the part of investors. That’s what keeps emasculating the electricity problems of NIGERIA. The same Peter Obi is complaining there’s no light. As if he was not the architect of the failure.
