EMPOWERMENT OF WIDOWS:

GROUP COMMENDS FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.



Dream Nigeria Movement (DNM), A coalition of Nigerian Patriots has eulogised the former Presidential candidate of National Democratic Liberation Party and the High Commissioner, United Nations International Peace Council (UNIPC) Amb. Barr. Robinson Akpua for his painstaking efforts and benevolence towards the transformation and upliftment of the economic, social,
psychology, political and legal circumstances of widows in Anambra State and across Nigeria through his Robinson Ozomma Foundation.




In a Press release made available to newsmen in Awka, Anambra State, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu, The National Co-ordinator, Dream Nigeria Movement and the Founder, Youth Advocate For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN)
stated that losing a husband or a partner is an incredibly saddening experience for many women, becoming a widow can also be the beginning of a whole new set of problems and hardships as they are faced with sudden urgent fears of providing for the family, difficulties of how they can afford to eat, or pay rent, or keep their children in school not only add to the emotional toll but also drastically change their lives.




Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu expressed deep appreciation to the former Presidential candidate of National Democratic Liberation Party for using his foundation to cater and give hope to widows who have been neglected and abandoned to their fate since the demise of their various family breadwinners.




Amb. Nwachukwu stated that the place and importance of women in our nation cannot be undermined as Nigerian women who comprised of almost half of the entire population, produce about 60% of the food crops, are involved in 90% of food processing, raise the children, maintain the household.



He appealed to Nigerian Government at all levels to initiate developmental policies and programs to empower vulnerable women especially the widows and protect them from harsh economic and societal realities which tends to be unfavorable to them.
