Gunmen, numbering about six at the weekend, kidnapped the Coordinator of Ikwo Development Centre, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Elder Nwode Eche in Ebonyi state.

Investigations by Saturday tribune revealed that the gunmen who stormed the victim’s residence, located at Azuiyiokwu area of the state at about 9:00 pm, whisked him away in his Corolla car and later transferred him to another vehicle which took off with speed before passersby could realise what was happening.

However, unconfirmed sources disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victim demanding fora ransom for the release of the coordinator.

When contacted on telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, John Eluu confirmed the incident, adding that men of the command were still investigating the circumstances behind the kidnap.

Mr Eluu said the command had swung into action to secure the release of the coordinator .

It is recalled that three coordinators of Development Centres in the state had earlier been kidnapped by gunmen in March this year, in which thirty million naira was paid to secure their release.
