ABOUT 31 years after his bid for governorship in old Gongola State, former vice president and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have had a new perception on the influence of religion on politics in the country.

Nigerian Tribune discovered that in an edition of Gongola Star the newsletter on his governorship ambition dated Friday, 31st May, 1991 he titled: Religion a non-issue, Atiku described the resort to religion and ethnicity as an unnecessary and harmful diversion.

“We can do without them in this campaign. Let us concentrate on the real issues before us. They are the issues of lie, the sustenance of life, the betterment of life,” he wrote.

You people are looking for something to paint Tinubu right for chosing a Muslim as a vice, rather than look inwardly on the implications of taking a Muslim as a vice irrespective of the fact that this country is a secular country....

We are totally against it and we will never allow this to happen......

Tinubu, I er the years have been pushing himself to be Muslim Vice to other candidates....

Why didn't he use a Muslim Vice during his time as the governor... why is he rubbing it on our faces....?

Atiku is known to change his stance everytime to favor his career. Just like his boy Obi and that's because they are not builders but strive on sentiments and gullibility of the masses.

This is very foolish perceptive

Atiku was talking about a state whose people have common ancestry

It's just like osun where Muslims didn't mind voting Adeleke because he is Yoruba

In Nigeria we are not one and would never be, the only thing I have common with a northernern is Christianity (northernern Christian's)

You have to respect that sharp uniting line because apart from that culture doesn't bind north to south and this union shouldn't exist

In terms of being a religious bigot I have not gotten a prove that Atiku is a Religion bigot but my own issues with him is that what did he keep in Aso Rock that he is fighting to go get?.
It is not a must that you must rule.
Most Kings in the Bible never thought in their lives they would be! Why?, because they were focused on their own life and never behave like Atiku and Tinubu who believe to become President is their '' birth right''
