PDP expels Folarin, six others

The crisis within the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened yesterday as the party expelled the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin and six other chieftains of the party for anti-party activities during the last general elections.

Those expelled alongside Folarin at the end of the party’s stakeholders meeting held in Ibadan, the state capital yesterday, are former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Yekini Adeojo; Senator Lekan Balogun; former Minister of Special Duties, Elder Wole Oyelese Azeem ; former Deputy Governor to Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala during his eleven months reign, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi; Senator Gbenga Babalola and Hon. Abass Olopoenia, former member of the House of Representatives.

It would be recalled that those expelled were in the fore front of the coalition against the second term bid of Otunba Alao-Akala. But in a swift reaction, Folarin said those who met to take the decision on his expulsion and that of others could not be taken serious, saying that nobody can expel him from the party. According to him, for eight years, he served as a Senator of the country under the platform of the PDP, and wondered why it should be after his tenure that he would be engaging in anti-party activities. Folarin said: “They are a bunch of jokers; no one can expel or suspend me from the party.
