ASUU Strike: Nigerians Ought to Ask ASUU, FG Can’t Acquire To Pay Them – Festus Keyamo says

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo has accused the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of being unrealistic with their demands.

He stated on Friday that the government can’t borrow money to pay the striking members of ASUU amidst cash shortages when other sectors of the economy also need attention.

According to Keyamo, ASUU should be begged to shelf their strike so the members can return to work, students can resume studies and the nation’s public universities can be re-opened.

It was reported he made the call on during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

In his words, “Should we go and borrow to pay N1.2 trillion yearly?

“You cannot allow one sector of the economy to hold you by the jugular and then blackmail you to go and borrow N1.2 trillion for overheads when our total income would be about N6.1 trillion. And you have roads to build, health centers to build, other sectors to take care of.”

The Minister said all concerned persons should appeal to ASUU to in the spirit of national interest, reconsider their stand.

“Like the President said the other time, those who know them, appeal to their sense of patriotism,” he said.

They Are Not The Only One In Nigeria

“Let them go back to classes. They are not the only ones in Nigeria. They are not the only ones feeding from the federal purse. The nation cannot grind to a halt because we want to take care of the demands of ASUU.”

Recollect that ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022, and has vowed not to resume until the federal government meets its demands.

ASUU IS OVERDOING IT AND OVERPLAYING ITS HANDS.

Ekiti has expressed a breakaway with a break in rank for OBSTINACY unbecoming of an ivory tower. How long would lecturers and students stay away from schools.

UNNECESSARY GRANDSTANDING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DIVIDE ACTUALLY PUTS THE FUTURE OF STUDENTS AND EDUCATION IN JEOPARDY.

The current strike is one too many and may pass for the longest stay outside classrooms.

With Ekiti out of the strike indicates stress with overstretched stance on a moribund misadventure and sympathy may soon sway to the side of government.

IT IS FAST BECOMING A SENSELESS AGITATION.

Why can't people and comments on front page be done with a little application of brain and logic..

Most people here comment based on hatred and unpatriotism..

How can ASUU which we all know has corrupt and incompetent lecturers be asking for 1.2 trillion together with their rubbish utas..

I am a student and I don't mind if the gorvenment holds their ground until whatever time those old men decides it's over.. I don't even know why those guys haven't even be sacked up till now..

ASUU is a very selfish and useless organization.. their demands are borne out of selfishness..

Their requests are meere dreams and fantasy..

Why would they ask to use utas when their mates are using ipps.. are they sacred cows?

They should fvck off angry
