Terrorists Attack 16 Military Bases In 18 Months, Kill 800 by Fareke: 5:08am On Aug 07, 2022
Terrorists on the rampage across the country have attacked about 16 military bases in the last 18 months, fuelling concerns that the military was overstretched and needed to restrategise to deal with the criminals, protect its personnel and tackle the security challenges.

Findings by Sunday PUNCH revealed that while some of the attacks led to the killing of soldiers, some were repelled and insurgents killed. It was also gathered that within the last couple of months, about 800 soldiers have been killed in different parts of the country.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on Friday, described as unacceptable the volume of attacks on Nigerians, blaming some foreign elements for fuelling the country’s security situation.

Speaking in Abuja at the graduation of Course 30 of the National Defence College, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the President said, “Government is deeply concerned about the activities of bandits and criminals who have reared their ugly heads in some parts of the country. This is because the number of violent unprovoked attacks on citizens appears to be on the increase. This is unacceptable.

“Accordingly, we have given strong directive to the military and other security agencies to deal decisively with terrorists, bandits and other enemies of the country. We have also adopted bilateral and multilateral arrangements to tackle the trans-border and maritime crimes because we recognise that some of our security challenges are imported into Nigeria by foreign elements.

“I want to assure all Nigerians that the government is doing all it can to eliminate or apprehend the criminals or bandits, wherever they are
.”

Meanwhile, the compilation done by Sunday PUNCH showed that the attacks on the military bases took place in the North. In 2022, there were six major attacks on military bases, witnessed in Borno, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba and Niger states. These were independent of other attacks on the military, including ambushes, attacks on their convoys and the most recent attack on soldiers was at the Zuma Rock checkpoint on July 28. A soldier was killed in the attack.

On some of the attacks on military bases, terrorists attacked a military base in Sarkin Pawa Town in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State on July 18, 2022. The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, said troops were able to repel the attack, noting that there were no casualties on the side of the soldiers.

On May 10, terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State West African Province launched an attack on the perimeter of the 6th Brigade military base in Jalingo, Taraba State. They were said to have thrown an explosive device into the base around 8:44pm. No casualty was recorded.

Also, on April 4, suspected Ansaru terrorists attacked a military base at Polewire on the Kaduna-Birnin Road in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during which about 11 soldiers were feared killed, while 19 soldiers were reportedly injured by the terrorists. The terrorists, who used Rocket-Propelled Grenade, also killed three members of a vigilance group and injured two.

In a similar vein, it was reported that ISWAP fighters attacked the multinational military base in Doron Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State on March 19. They were however repelled by soldiers attached to the Operation Hadin Kai, killing some of the terrorists. Reports said the terrorists came with five gun trucks and grenades but were eventually decimated by the soldiers after about a two-hour gun battle.

Also, reports on January 21 noted that terrorists stormed the military base located within Government Day Secondary School, Shinfada, in the Jibia Local Government of Katsina State. A soldier and a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were reportedly killed. The Spokesperson for the NSCDC, Muhammed Abdara, confirmed the development to journalists.

In 2021, reports said there were attacks on at least 11 military bases in the North. Some of the attacks were foiled by soldiers.

Sorry state of the nation.

As it stands, Nigeria is now the unsafest country in the world. Somalia and Afghanistan are now heaving sighs of relief that they no longer hold that title anymore.

This is what happens when you have a fake army General in power.

Poo'hari and the supreme court governor are two evil bunch.

Anytime they hold their Coven of closed door meetings, weeks later , kaboom ! innnocent people are killed. If you are a lost soul, you will think the aim of the too many closed door meetings between the two will improve the security Situation in Imo state and find a lasting solution to the menace of kidnapping and killingss.

I aint no lost soul cos I know they are both the architect of the killings in the East as a whole

This was how after their closed door meeting 14 youths were massacred on their way back home from a wedding ceremony.

Since their evil Plans affected only Igbo youths there was no need for him to react.

Now that his plan with the supreme court governor was carried out on non Igbos, he is no more shocked but "decisive" and awake because he will send his "repentant" boko haram fulani Military to go and carry out genocide on the Igbos as usual.

Since the UN have told him categorically to release Nnamdi Kanu and that Ipob is not a terrorist organisation, he jas been holding series of closed door Meetings with the supreme court efulefu governor to cause more mayhem, carry out more killing by beheading the head of innocent Nigerians to prove that Ipob is indeed a terrorist organisation.

There have been Lots of kidnapping in the east and nobody is calling the shots. "Non-Igbos are now affected and suddenly poo'hari remembers the southeast.

If you are living around that axis, pls disappear from there,. because the "repentant boko haram soldiers who have been drafted into the Army will visit with mayhem and genocide.

They are not coming to identify anybody because there is nobody to identify except poo'hari and the supreme court governor

He has foolishly boxed himself to a corner.

The Nigerian military is a fault themselves.

They are collaborating with terrorist groups.
The Chief of the Army is busy stealing military funds.
The lack of willingness results in opening our military bases for attack and sacrificing soldiers to terrorists due to a lack of weapons, care and fund for soldiers.
And the soft hands of the government show support to these terrorists.

So the fight against terrorism will not work because the country has scored an own goal through terrorist, military and government collaboration.

No sane person takes this government serious anymore. With about seven months to go, the ethnic champion is still talking about bringing terrorists to book. This bias government will go down in history as the worst thing ever to happen to Nigerians. The Fulani terrorists remains a curse to any country they found themselves. I regret ever sharing a country with these unrepentant blood sucking Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen rampaging every part of the country. Nigeria is a complete scam established by the greedy British to punish the indigenous people in Nigeria. They should continue to rehabilitate the deadly Fulani terrorists and days you hear about bringing the terrorists to book. Very funny confused people in power.

Hmm...

The security architecture in nigeria is a mess. Not only are the security forces under equipped & corruption invested, the recruitment process seems to favour the
criminals, unqualified, uninterested & connected persons.

Further, security agencies prefer to work outside thier mandates in the guise of 'security checks' & this makes them distracted & vulnerable to attacks.

The security architecture in nigeria needs to be reviewed holistically.

Nigerians for our own sake, let us retire the last 2 big men in our politics

Atiku and Tinubu will be big men president, haughty and full of themselves

No one will be able to question them just as it is with Buhari now.

Vote a President like Obi who can relate with people of all social class, who can come down to the people's level

Some one who has the mental capacity and energetic to get the job done

Some one who can engage in intense intellectual debates to find solutions to our lingering crisis

Some one who can hold marathon meetings and read reports

Some one who will bring respect, seriousness and dignity to office of the president, someone who will make education a focal point of governance

Some one who will give the youths hope that they too can become president by dint of hard work not old men who have been in politics for over 30 years +

Vote someone who will cut and reduce cost of governance, our government is too bloated and is run at a very high cost to the detriment of ordinary Nigerians

Someone who will move round the country to see things for himself, for example, we can all see how Governor Zulum moves around himself and the situation in Bornu has improved today

Vote someone that can be called to order if he is derailing not big men on high horses who will be looking down on people.

Well this is what to expect when educated individuals come together to vote a weak and incompetent mannequin.
