^^^I have always admired ruby on rails - but from a distance sha. I like being versatile - so that when the opportunity arises to use the language - i can shine.
However, I still maintain that i am very happy that i am a PHP specialist - PHP has very good prospects in my environs. You cannot go hungry here if you sabi PHP wela - not just copy-and-paste-codes.

I did some research before about RoR. It is an open source application framework and offer some exciting features. Twitter is the example of website that uses this platform. So, it performs really well online.

I can rewrite twitter with php - and it will still look and run the same, a good ror programmer can rewrite facebook with ror. That is how the programming world goes. So in the end, it is not the language, but rather the programmer.
But some languages make life very easy. And yes, ror in itself is more efficient than PHP. But PHP has lots of frameworks and CMSes that make life easier.

I am not saying one is superior to the other, i am just saying that in the real world of developing applications - it is a different story entirely.

True dhml. There are different features RoR brings to life but every programmer uses it for one reason or the other. For me its because I like LOVE Ruby and MVC.

PHP has an MVC framework also. But yes, ror is a nice lang to know

To echo what you are saying, the main advantage of PHP over certain other languages is that there are just a ton of PHP programmers and existing software available.

So you can probably build your web apps more cheaply if you use PHP (since labor is likely to be cheaper and easier to find.)

^^^Yes, all that, and there is hardly any problem you will run into that you will not find solution - it is highly unlikely.

I can say same for Ruby too. Actually it is easier and faster to get help with Ruby **biased mouth** because you can ask the developers directly,

Lastly, search google - just type "" into google - i will not say anything beyond that (i will skip out the most significant - my contributions to the webmasters section).

I am not showing off with knowing a lot of languages (even spoken languages - i speak and write in more than 1 international language - not counting English).
The koko thing in programming is to find a corner for yourself - even if all you sabi na joomla. I know people that use only Joomla and they make far more money than me. If you are looking for money, you should specialize in one hot language - and make a living out of it.

My programming teacher specialized in vb 6.0 - and till date he is still making a good living out of it (contrary to what many believe) - but for newbies, i advise vb.net

Enjoyable read ...everyone made interesting points from the ruby pushers to the abeg learn php & make some cash to candylips polyglot programming I did grab a thing or two... I already know ruby tho it's not my main language nice too someone cares about it here
