Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by ektbear: 10:19pm On Aug 03, 2011 |
The Associated Press Published: Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 - 10:12 am KANO, Nigeria -- An independent monitor says hundreds of parents are defying threats of jail time by refusing polio vaccines for their children in a high-risk northern Nigerian state. Muhammad Abdu Zango, Kano state coordinator of Journalists Against Polio, said Tuesday that more than 200 parents refused the vaccine in one district alone. Vaccinator Amina Ahmed says dozens more refused in another district. The four-day drive targeted some 6 million children in a state that has recorded two new polio cases this year. Authorities last week said noncompliant parents would be prosecuted. Parents have given various reasons to resist the vaccine. Polio is largely eradicated in most of the world, but health officers say even a few vaccine holdouts can compromise an eradication campaign. http://www.sacbee.com/2011/08/02/3811495/nigeria-hundreds-of-parents-refuse.html |

PointB: +100 Get polio vaccine from Saudi if you are so paranoid. But perhaps Saudi will give it to them for free like the Westerners will, so they'll need to buy it |

~Bluetooth: Pfizer used an experimental drug on Children already suffering from acute meningitis. Pfizer is a profit making entity. This immunization campaign is being carried out by the UN/WHO to vaccinate kids against Polio. Big difference in the two cases. I don't know about 'depopulating hausas'. Where i served in Abia state, kids were being given the OPV too. |

Once bitten, twice shy! Deception, guile and manipulation was the name of the Pfizer's game Unfortunately everyday people from that region who experience the havoc wrecked by the "western agency" cannot make a distinction between these international foreign agency hence the distrust. |
Re: Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by Nobody: 11:06am On Aug 04, 2011 |
Bawss1:You can never know western foreign policy in Africa until the effects hit you. texazzpete:Honestly,I won't blame them cuz they would still think UN or whoever is involved still want to conduct another test on their children. This is a game of trust on the life of their children and losing a child out of deception can take a long time to heal. Not everybody likes the word ''Deja Vu''. |
Re: Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by grabdbull: 11:07am On Aug 04, 2011 |
Pfizer this, Pfizer that!! You make it seem as if they just started rejecting vaccines after the Pfizer incident. For your information, they have been rejecting vaccines long before the trovan episode. Something about the vaccines "will make their children sterile, thus systematically reducing their population". Don't make Pfizer the scape-goat. |
Re: Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by texazzpete(m): 11:22am On Aug 04, 2011 |
grabdbull: This! It's the 'sterility' rumour once again, not Pfizer. |

CIA organised fake vaccination drive to get Osama bin Laden's family DNA: Senior Pakistani doctor who organised vaccine programme in Abbottabad arrested by ISI for working with US agents The CIA organised a fake vaccination programme in the town where it believed Osama bin Laden was hiding in an elaborate attempt to obtain DNA from the fugitive al-Qaida leader's family, a Guardian investigation has found. As part of extensive preparations for the raid that killed Bin Laden in May, CIA agents recruited a senior Pakistani doctor to organise the vaccine drive in Abbottabad, even starting the "project" in a poorer part of town to make it look more authentic, according to Pakistani and US officials and local residents. The doctor, Shakil Afridi, has since been arrested by the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) for co-operating with American intelligence agents. Relations between Washington and Islamabad, already severely strained by the Bin Laden operation, have deteriorated considerably since then. The doctor's arrest has exacerbated these tensions. The US is understood to be concerned for the doctor's safety, and is thought to have intervened on his behalf. The vaccination plan was conceived after American intelligence officers tracked an al-Qaida courier, known as Abu Ahmad al-Kuwaiti, to what turned out to be Bin Laden's Abbottabad compound last summer. The agency monitored the compound by satellite and surveillance from a local CIA safe house in Abbottabad, but wanted confirmation that Bin Laden was there before mounting a risky operation inside another country. DNA from any of the Bin Laden children in the compound could be compared with a sample from his sister, who died in Boston in 2010, to provide evidence that the family was present. So agents approached Afridi, the health official in charge of Khyber, part of the tribal area that runs along the Afghan border. The doctor went to Abbottabad in March, saying he had procured funds to give free vaccinations for hepatitis B. Bypassing the management of the Abbottabad health services, he paid generous sums to low-ranking local government health workers, who took part in the operation without knowing about the connection to Bin Laden. Health visitors in the area were among the few people who had gained access to the Bin Laden compound in the past, administering polio drops to some of the children. Its getting more difficult to trust Western Aid donors thisdays, at least the Pfizer experience is still fresh in their minds and the lies used to invade Libya for which Nigeria was tricked into signing is still ongoing. |

Guyman02: How does this even relate to the topic at all? moreover, you're too daft to even realize that the section you highlighted in bold font has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the CIA or the US. |
Re: Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by Nobody: 12:44pm On Aug 04, 2011 |
texazzpete: We know that fact (atleast some), however, try to tell those Northern parents that. But a group of uneducated people, no offense, usually learns from experience (cause-n-effect). |

Gotten from the gov't, Pfizer or the Saudis. Wherever. Isn't it time to wipe out polio? |
Re: Nigeria: Hundreds Of Parents Refuse Polio Vaccines by JPizzy(m): 7:12am On Aug 06, 2011 |
Well, 1 of the disadvantages associated with attenuated vaccines is the possibility of reversion of attenuation. This could give rise to vaccine-induced disease even in healthy people. The Polio vaccine used then's a good example of attenuated vaccines. To the best of my knowledge, this was what happened in 1996.I'm not sure if the Polio vaccine in current use is of the attenuated type. |
