THE BUREAU | CRIME  The Adamawa State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has strongly denounced the assault and battery of one of its female members, Nafeesa Vandi. On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, a fired employee of PHCN, allegedly battered the mother of three and employee of the News Department of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation Yola. In a statement released on Wednesday in response to the event and signed by its head, Ishaka Donald Dedan, the union called the assault of a practicing professional female journalist "unacceptable, evil, and barbaric." "The NUJ calls for a more speedy action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu in accordance with the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the statement read. "Though the police has already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence," it added. The union additionally requests that national and international agencies including FIDA, UNFPA, and UNICEF, as well as civil society organizations, take action to ensure that justice is served in this case.
