FG, US Sign Agreement For Return Of Fresh $23.4m Abacha Loot

The Federal Government, on Tuesday, signed a fresh agreement with the Government of the United States of America, USA, for the repatriation of a total sum of $23, 439, 724 that was allegedly looted by the late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

While the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, represented FG in the ceremonial signing of the asset return agreement held at the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters in Abuja, the US government, was represented by its Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard.

The AGF, Malami, SAN, said decision to return the stolen loot which he tagged as Abacha-5, was a product of series of negotiations and meetings between Nigeria, the US Department of Justice and the UK National Crime Agency, NCA.

“It is worthy to note that in line with the terms of this Agreement, Mr. President had already approved the funds to be utilized for the ongoing Presidential Development Infrastructural Funds, PIDF, projects namely; Abuja-Kano Road, Lagos-Ibadan Express Way and the Second Niger Bridge under the supervision of Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA

“The President’s mandate to my office is to ensure that all international recoveries are transparently invested and monitored by civil society organization to compete these three projects within the agreed timeline”
, Malami stated.

Abacha is really an incredible thief who died in June 1998. Over 2 decades later, they are still bringing back his loots. All these loots are being discovered because late Gen Abacha kicked the bucket.

When are they going to return loots by living generals like Babaginda, Abdul Abubukar, Yakubu Gowon, etc.? Abi dem no loot? undecided

BTW, Buhari and his goons will share the money and say it was given to poor Nigerians. What APC cannot do doesn't exist.

America should hold on to that fund until we have a new government in this country. The previous looted returns they and the UK made back to Nigeria have all been looted again.

Our darling, Bubu once said Abacha didn't steal. I now wonder why we still sign deals to return Abacha's loot.

More like, Abacha saved for the future if his fellow looters who made it to government, because we don't get to see the use of all these returned loots except that it is relooted. Maybe the US should use it to cater for stranded Nigerians in their country...

They should have waited for next administration to take over before returning the money.
The money will likely go the way of other borrowed monies.

Go to Niger delta where all this money were uprooted , you see how tattered the area looks like. They can’t develop the states which are producing the 97% of the country’s revenue , instead they loot the money to Uk and USA and come back to start telling you that Lagos was was developed by “EMILOKAN”. I wonder what this one Nigeria would have been if this revenues is from their states

P.O 2023 vote wisely
