The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) today paraded 101 bags of cannabis sativa in the high seas of Lagos enroute Benin republic. National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP gathered that the five suspects dived into the sea and eloped upon sighting the NSCDC officials whom they regarded as ‘uncompromising’.

The illicit drug intercepted was said to originate from Ghana. It is the specie popularly called ‘loud’ among drug users due to its high intoxication capacity.

Speaking to NAOSNP President, Oki Samson alongside other newsmen when the illicit drug was set for handing-over to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Commandant of NSCDC in Lagos, Commandant Okoro Douglas Eweka shared: ‘At 2.00hrs yesterday, the Antivandal team of the Command got credible intelligence and intercepted a Cotonou boat at the high sea close to Ibeshe nearer to Badagry. On sighting our gunboat, the 5 occupants of the boat shouted that NSCDC officers are uncompromising and then jumped into the sea. We drove their boat to our Ijora jetty at 11.00hrs. It contains 101 bags of cannabis sativa with value of over N65 million.’

‘Though we have no prosecuting right on drugs but all criminality originate from the use of drugs. And as a responsible security organization we cannot keep watching while the life of our citizens is being destroyed.

Meanwhile in February, the 9 culprits arrested with 201 bags of cannabis have been successfully prosecuted by NDLEA, they were sentenced to jail on 14th October.

For doing this good job, they deserve to be assisted, we are handing over this 101 bags to them to take necessary action’, Eweka said.

The Commandant pleaded with Ghana to stop the illegal business, ‘We use this medium to plead with the Ghanaian government not to wrongly compensate our neighborliness by flooding Nigeria with this evil product. It may interest you that this Indian hemp came to Nigeria from Ghana as a result of the unique packaging in form of pawpaw and Bible. This Ghana specie have a high grade of intoxication that’s why they are called ‘loud’ in local parlance.’

‘For an evil product which have the capability to turn the country upside down and make our youths useless, I am priceless, I am uncompromising, I won’t take it, I don’t have a price for that. We at NSCDC will not allow this product to turn our country upside down. We will not hesitate to arrest a trafficker or accomplice. Nigeria is not a dumping ground for drugs. The country belongs to us, we won’t allow criminality to thrive. It is no retreat no surrender. We are using this medium to inform all Nigerians who are collaborating that enough is enough. We have our eagle eye watching’, NAOSNP gathered.

He then praised the leadership of NSCDC and NDLEA for the giant strides aimed at reducing crimes and criminality in the country. ‘I want to thank God and thank our Commandant-General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi who is genuinely utilizing the funds allocated to him by the Federal government for the procurement of a gunboat for the Lagos State Command hence the success of this operation. Both the Commandant-General of NSCDC and Chairman of NDLEA are good people, patriotic and upright in the line of duty. They deserve the credit for this wonderful job.’
