Today, I visited Otuoke, my community and a few other communities in Bayelsa State to have an assessment of the impact of the flood. It is still a depressing situation in many of the affected communities because of the magnitude of the flood and the disruption and destruction it has caused.
This is a moment of crisis; we need to work in unity to achieve the goal of giving hope and providing succor to all victims.
I urged all citizens of goodwill and humanitarian agencies to demonstrate solidarity with these victims and provide support to those affected.

This man was president of Nigeria for 6 years. The only thing he did in Etuoke was building a mansion for himself without even thinking about the susceptibility of the area to flooding. Today, the mansion is underwater and not habitable. Our leaders lack foresight and easily get carried away by all the noise that goes with being a president. Obasanjo was president for 8 years. He didn't remember to reconstruct the road leading to Otta. Today, Obj is complaining about the state of the same road he neglected while in office and had all the power to fix.

He is a PhD Biologist yet destroyed all the protective forests and natural fauna of Ogbia (that could protect the villages against flood by acting as barrier and water reserviour, check the uncontrolled population of herbivores and illegal fellers of trees) to give his waterlogged Otuoke village bridges, roads, FMCs , federal university etc in that small village while they remain below sea level.

For political exigency of not being blamed for not 'bringing the city to his small pristine village' in their own time, they traded off their natural asset for infrastructures that are underutilized and now a huge liability the EIA must have mentioned but they ignored. Same thing is happening in Abua Odual Ahoada axis ravaged by floods.

If he knows what is good for him and Bayelsa, they better bring back the forests and fauna, even if in protected reserves, side a side the infrastructures they cleared the forests and fauna for. Failure to do so , ehn, all the infrastructures, university and his village will be washed away into the atlantic someday and everything will be LOST! It is already happening because those things including his own house are useless right now without accessibility.

Within 5 years, his Ogbia has witnessed unprecedented flooding that will one day wash all away. The Bayelsa Governor should please stop turning a self-inflicted issue into a pity party. The worsening effect of the floods is man-made!
