Urban Scoop Media Talks Tough as its #SOS On Benin Auchi Road Hits 200 signatories tonigt!

...makes strong case in support of an Indigenous capable contractor like Setraco or Heartland to take over the project for fast results.

Irrua 30th October, 2022.

The Editorial Board of Urban Scoop Media (a development oriented community news media) has intensified awareness campaigns in consolidation of the trending online petition in change.org tagged #SOS on Benin Auchi Road.

The social justice petition published on the 28th October 2022 has so far attracted close to 150 signers and still counting as at press time.

Comrade Ohens Kingsley, an editorial board member told journalists in Irrua today that his platform is mobilizing massive support from across the world to actualize the goal of the agitation.

He further called on all Esan, Benin, Owan, Etsakor people and all Nigerians to lend a voice in solidarity of the campaign.

"If we ask, it shall be given to us. If we seek, we shall find. We have a right to good roads most especially the High way leading to Abuja from the oil rich Niger Delta Region." He said.

Ohens specifically pointed out that the current contractors handling the work has failed woefully. We do not see them with the ability to do the road. They have been there for over ten years without making any tangible progress. Many lives have been lost owing to their stagnancy. we therefore appeal that the work be re-awarded to an indigenous capable contractor like Heartland or Setraco whose owners have vested interest in the road. They are sure to deliver the project in record time.

We call on all to support this campaign. Let's speak up for what is right", he said.

Find below part of the petition and append your signature. Together our voices will be heard far and wide.

The Benin Auchi Road was constructed in early 1970s when vehicles were still very few in Nigeria and Abuja was not the FCT then.

After over 50 years of use, the one way road linking the FCT to the South East and South South including the oil rich Niger Delta Region is now completely expired and has become unpassable death trap. Heavy duty trucks now spend more than one month moving from Benin to Auchi (a two hours journey when the road was good). Life has become unbearable for the road users and the people of Esanland now find it very difficult to transport essential commodities to the region leading to double economic meltdown.

We need the Federal govt of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency on the road and if possible , re-award the work to a new contractor to fast-track construction of the road in record time. The dualization contract awarded to three companies since ten years ago is now redundant and moribund because they are not seen to be working or making progress . An Indigenous solid contractor like Heartland and Setraco are the ideal company to handle the work.

The deaths and economic hardship caused by the bad road is becoming unbearable.

They are not working on the roads because they have not been mobilized financially unless you think the indigenous contractors will work on credit
