Can Nigeria Offer Refuge To Gadhafi? by hsert(f): 3:32pm On Aug 22, 2011
Hello Nairalanders,
Come to think of it, since Gadhafi has lost Libya to its opposition, if Nigeria agrees to give Gadhafi refuge, will Gadhafi gladly accept the offer? and how would Nigerians react?
Candid opinions please

Nigeria won't offer him asylum cos he is yet to apologize for the comments he made about Nigeria. He can go to SA though.

Re: Can Nigeria Offer Refuge To Gadhafi? by kodewrita(m): 3:44pm On Aug 22, 2011
He should learn from Charles Taylor.

Standard Nigerian Procedure:
1. Tyrant flies to nigeria in special jet
2. tyrant gets hosted in secret lodge in mambila or calabar or some kogi hideout.
3. Tyrant enjoys hospitality of nigerian govt (money, women, visits by politicians)
4. US dignitary visits nigeria.
5. Talks ensue and Jonathan/{Insert your favourite candidate} gets convinced.
6. Tyrant packed and sent by DHL to the Hague.
7. Shikena

The only countries Ghaddafi can afford to seek asylum are Cuba and Venezuela. Ghadhaffi is treated as a hero in Cuba and during the NATO invasion, Cuban television always showed pictures of people protesting in support of Ghaddaffi whilst Western Media showed the converse. Don't forget that Ghaddafi is also a socialist and his revolution was a "socialist" revolution.

In summary, he cannot afford to go to any country that will wilt under international pressure or a country that will give him up to prevent trade sanctions.

Angolan and south African government have offered him safe haven in their countries but I doubt if any Arab nation will allow him.however,i think china, iran, russia and north korea will receive him with warm hands

^^When Zuma is replaced, the next President may give him up. Secondly Dos Santos will do anything for his American masters if pressured. My advice to Ghaddafi is simply go to Cuba/Venezuela where he can relax for the rest of his life in a mansion by the beach.

@Topic,

Why can we offer him asylum? Is that there is no space for a 'mad man' at Yaba Psychiatric Hospital or have we run out space at Maximum Security Prison in Kirikiri? Whichever way we classify him, there would be enough space for the inglorious bast.ard!
Re: Can Nigeria Offer Refuge To Gadhafi? by unipol(m): 8:37pm On Aug 22, 2011
why are you people talking about asylom? he said he will die like a legend. asylom could translate in his own head as a coward

Re: Can Nigeria Offer Refuge To Gadhafi? by tpia5: 8:48pm On Aug 22, 2011
he's white though.

that would be too high profile and visible unless he went to some mountain hideout deep in the jungle.

he's from a desert country so i'm not sure how he'd cope in an equatorial region.

maybe cuba or a south american country.

or russia?

Lets take him to the house we kept Charles Taylor in Calabar, and later do to him what Obasanjo did to Taylor. That is hand him over to War crime tribunal in the Hague

The "mad man" led a country that has highest GDP in Africa, owing nobody a dime. has hospitals that work, refineries that produce enough for his people, creates work and housing for all his people, but forgot to recognise that there is life after power.

If our own "sane men" could achieve at least one of his achievements most university graduates driving taxis in US, washing plates in London, prostituting in Italy, carrying drugs in Singapore etc etc, would not have left shore of their countries.

well said! Don't mind these Euro-centric africans with colonial mentality. They did not personally run a psychiatrict evaluation on Ghaddafi, but as their slave master has said one of their African brothers is a mad man, they accept he is a mad man. They sit in front of BBC and CNN all day swallowing western propaganda. Libya is a paradise compared to any african country, everything works, but the white man has bombed it to pieces. Just watch as the western oil cartel will strat scrambling for contracts (money!!!!!!!!)

Rofl, euro-centric african, with his location in greenwich, london grin grin.
amusing.but idiotic.
How is Gaddafi an "African brother", hasn't he killed, locked up and repatriated more Nigerians than either London or the US?I never recall Libya being a place where they just throw the borders open to all other Africans!

If everything "worked" in Libya, then why are the libyan masses revolting against him?Libya pumps 1.6 million barrels a day,how come he doesn't take that wealth and share it with his countrymen like the Saudis?

Instead of making blanket assumptions it would be wise for you to do your diligent research and not just cloud your mind with ignorance and insensitivity.Euro centric londoneer. grin

Yea, why didn't you go and live in Libya? The 'grass is greener at the other side' is the mentality of sufferers of inferiority complex!

its a country with half the population of lagos and more oil than Nigeria, they will survive well. besides they dont have to build too many new stuffs(ghadaffi has built all those with their money), they just have to maintain what they have.

And more money coming in soon from tourism just like Egypt's tourism biz.

Their lives will definitely get better.

Size or no size,it shows that Ghadaffi's rule has benefitted his people, what can we say about Nigeria that also have oil but with nothing to show for it other than poverty ?

Which spirit entered you to ask such question?!
If you look at it, Nigeria is the only top oil producing country that hasnt seen political unrest, YET
And you want us to host Gaddaffi so that what?
So that he helps pour petrol to the fire that is arising from ethnic differences or so that someone (NATO?) will invade Nigeria because we have this habit of squatting war criminals and producing future terrorists (B.ok.o Haram?)
Please o, make dem carry their wahala go. We no want. abi na by force?
