Nigerian don't want to wait months for the Nigeria Immigration Service to process passports. This leads to corrupt passport officials trying to offer gullible Nigerian promises of faster service. This is a market opportunity for the government to charge an expedited fee. People are willing to pay for premium service so should be provided. Processing times should be much faster than 2 months.

The NIS should be mailing these documents after payment. There's no reason to Subject Nigerians to two trips to the office if you're asking for their residence information during the passport registration. Nigerian postal service should be put to use. This will guarantee faster service because the queues are shorter.

PS: Check the US fee schedule as a reference.

Buhari and Aregbesola are failures for not coming up with simple solutions. Aregbesola suggested everyone wearing body cams instead. The government collects more money in expedite fees, travelers get the passports sooner, NIPOST gets more revenue from mailing fees. Just open up second location for expedited services in FCT or somewhere.

It's crazy that the government shut down the expedite service center. Corruption in Nigeria is a feature, not a bug. Any reasonable individual should understand this is why the war on Corruption is a massive failure. I feel the solution to most issues is transparency and accountability. Refunds would incentivise they fulfill there services like expedited serivce faster mail times.

NIS is going to start working on Saturdays now to clear their backlog. They're just increasing their cost temporarily to fix this issue. The other to changes would be a permanent fix to their woes.

The statement reads: “The comptroller-general has directed that passport offices across the country with a high volume of pending applications to work on Saturdays.

“The period for this exercise is expected to be every Saturday commencing from December 3, 2022, to January 28, 2023, between the period of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“This is to enhance our service delivery to our esteemed clients.

“The Saturday proceeding the Christmas and New Year holidays are exempted.”
