The Caging Of Lagos Ibadan Press By Social Media. by Nwaetche(m): 7:21am On Dec 09, 2022
A cursory look at most of our traditional Lagos and Ibadan based news media will show a great disparity on how the 2023 Presidential Election frontrunners namely Tinubu, Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso are reported.

Tinubu is in the news for almost everything he does. Any news that will put him in bad light is hardly reported but compare this with Obi, his fellow southern contender, you would see that most reportage is when he is been negatively portrayed.

For many of us that have been following up the western press for sometime now, this does not come as a surprise as most are driven by pecuniary, ethnic bias and tribal hegemony to drive the news narrative that favour their kinsmen and establishment candidates.

However, this current election cycle is proving difficult for this ethnic demagogues to drive the narratives due mainly on the herald of social media.

The social media has made Obi and other non-establishment candidates to level up. One wonders why it is becoming difficult for folks like Sam Omatsaye to define Obi as an ethnic champion and IPOB candidate. None of them mentions the Yoruba Nations agitators that have erudite professions and intellectuals in their midst. Tinubu support for a faction of Odu’a Peoples Congress(OPC) during him stint as Lagos Governor has being swept under the carpet. They are only able to convince Yoruba Muslims and not the enlightened Yoruba Christians and other Nigerians.

Obi owes his run on social media which has thwarted every effort of the traditional Lagos Ibadan Express way news media to define him.

These notoriously medial conglomerate have been very disastrous for Nigeria for having play an ignominy role in foisting mediocre leadership on Nigerians since independence and I am of the opinion that the country would be better with their caging by the social media.

You are right @Op. Even though social media has it's own disadvantages, but then, it has really helped in changing the false narratives for the Lagos Ibadan express way news, and it will be replicated in the coming elections. Like I always say, it will not be business as usual. Lagos Ibadan express way news has really destroyed this Nation with their lies and propaganda. Funny thing is that it was the APC that started using the power of social media against the GEJ government back in 2014. Now they are scared of the platform they used in coming to power and doing everything to stifle it. Na lie. They have their hoards in the social media but the voice of truth is muting their voice of lies.
