Nigeria rallies Africa to back new Libyan govt

NIGERIA is now rallying other African states in a bid to stave off feared civilian loss of lives following the taking of Libya by rebel forces.
Nigeria had earlier joined the community of nations that recognised the National Transitional Council (NTC) as the government to do business with in the oil-rich north African country.
After a consultation meeting on the heels of the summit on drought in the north of Africa which ended at the weekend, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru signed a statement which the Federal Government authored jointly with the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia seeking for African support of the new leadership in Libya.

Meanwhile, the Senator Rufai Hanga-led faction of Congress For Progressives Change (CPC) has condemned the position of the African Union (AU) over Libya while applauding the Federal Government of Nigeria for taking bold step in speaking out the truth by recognizing the populist movement of the majority of Libyans (NTC) as the official government in that country.
The party had in a statement by its protem National Publicity Secretary, Denis Aghanya, in Abuja, described the Federal Government move as wise step, which it stated, was in line with the principle of being our brothers keepers.

While commending the Federal Government, the party noted that when a similar step was taken over Ivory Coast, it yielded the desired result with peace gradually returning to the country.
Maintaining that the recent unfolding events in Libya have amply demonstrated that the NTC is in control of the greater part of Libya, Nigeria stressed that in line with its foreign policy built on consensus, it is not only giving its full support to the Libyan council but calls upon “all states who uphold democratic tenets to do likewise”
The joint statement by the two nations made available to the Guardian yesterday read “In the interest of peace and stability, and the well-being of the people of Libya, the governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have decided to jointly recognise the National Transitional Council as the interim legitimate authority in Libya, ”

“We call upon all peace loving countries in general, African countries and the African Union, in particular to contribute to peace and stability in Libya by recognising the authority and legitimacy of the NTC.
“Ethiopia and Nigeria are on the side of the NTC at this important juncture of the history of Libya. We stand ready to extend to them the support necessary to facilitate the achievement of the difficult tasks of establishing an inclusive transitional government, reconstruction, national reconciliation and peace building in order to meet the yearnings and legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people for human rights, democracy, the rule of law and good governance.

“To ensure the realisation of the lofty objective, we urge the African Union and its members to be consistent by extending to the NTC the type of support and recognition that was extended to Tunisia and Egypt.”

nobody cares about or listens to Nigeria,

We don't even run even West Africa,

There are 2 camps developing in West Africa,  The Ghana camp which opposes foreign intervention and the Nigerian camp which supports foreign intervention and everything from USA, France, UK,

Look at this map of countries that have recognized the NTC of Libya,
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bf/LibyanRepublicRelations.svg

In the Larger Africa  camp there is the South Africa Camp and Nigeria Camp the South Africa camp is winning though with most people liking Jacob Zuma because of his exuberance, Not all of the Blue are in the Nigeria Camp as Egypt is more Arab league and Morocco is and Tunisia are playing North African politics.

In the end Goodluck should focus on solving the problems in Nigeria rather than embarrassing us!!!

How much longer can they resist the NTC? Gaddaffi is gone, smart people know that. It's time to redefine your relationship with the people of Libya. Nigeria is on course here. Full throttle, Nigeria!

From the map, it looks like very important countries have taken the first step. Others will naturally fall behind the leaders. Time, is what it will take.

South Africa is the most important country in Africa,

Most of those who don't recognize the NTC don't do so because, they want them to have an inclusive government which will prevent a tribal war and a potential Somalia developing there,

As it is right now every Black face is being killed in Libya so, for a country like Nigeria to recognize the rebels without and sort of attempt to ensure reform shows the level of low thinking of some people in government!!!

Your thinking is suspect here. So, you still think rational people will support Ghafaffi? On what basis? Which black race is being killed in Libya? and by who? By the rebels? You turn issues round. Who is killing his own people? I dont understand your line of reasoning.

People just talk for no just course or reasoning. Is it now a Goodluck issue?

Ghadaffi is killing his own people, you didn't bat an eyelid, but you are screaming now because Goodluck is not backing the man that is killing his own people?

What kind of brain do you have?

Seems the research in Nigeria is so poor that many don't have a clue about what is going on!

You have to understand the CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera all mainly promote propaganda for their objectives and if you don't look harder you will not know the full story,

If Ghana evacuated 18000 citizens and Nigeria evacuated less than 1000 whose citizens do you think are at risk of being killed by the small minded rebels who think every African is a mercenary a fact no credible source has been able to prove!!! But, Goodluck shows no concern for the people therby not evacuating them and then playing politics with their lives!

GEJ already helped France to destabilize Cote d'Ivoire. What else he can't do to lick Westerners' boots?

About time. Time to rally the truly important nations and isolate the tyrants and tyrant-friendly nations. Nigeria linking up with Ethiopia is a pretty good idea. The AU just like the League of Nations is steadily losing its relevance by not rising to the occasion and doing whats right. One more political fiasco and we can forget about the whole circus.

South Africa on the other hand have had their noses bruised under Zuma: Cote d'ivoire, Libya are just symptoms of greater things ahead. They will keep going against commonsense and Nigeria will keep showing them WHO'S boss.

I thought Nigeria lifted Nigerians out of Libya. Well maybe those ones still in Libya may have chosen to stay there. Nevertheless if the rebels are routinely killing black Africans, we should laying sanctions and not recognising them. This regardless of what anybody must think of ghadafi.
