They sell what is left to any distribution company or manufacturing company that is interested in powering it's industry. A limit of 40MW applies though. That's what the constitution says.
In a nutshell he has embark on project that has not reflected on the state economy or life of the citizens.

Firstly, remember you are on ñairaland where people pour out their entire anger to relieve themselves.
Many don't care to know the history of this project.
Former governor oshiomole built some of these streetlights, modeled after what is obtainable in Lagos state.

Governor Obaseki discovered it was a cesspool of corruption as many of the streetlights were either damaged or not being powered as at when due, while some corrupt politicians and civil servants were getting the allocation diverted to their accounts.

The governor decided to discontinue funding these projects as it was becoming a drain in the state coffers.

Instead, the governor decided to embark on building the Oshiomo power plant, sponsored by Edo state government and other investors.
This power plant is responsible for powering all the 200km route around Benin city, thereby saving the state huge costs that the bureaucratic fat cats were feeding off.

Presently, the whole Benin city is been litted through the night, helping to bring back Nightlife and business now thrives irrespective of time of the day.

In two or three years time, the entire Benin city street would be centrally litted.

The whole Benin City is lit through the night? What manner of lies is this?
Some of the street lights have even stopped working from Ikpoba river to third junction, some in New Benin, Ugbowo they is no working street lights just poles, from Ring Road to wire road no street and even Ekehuan road no street lights.
Osiomo power plant is only benefitting the persons in government.

Shamelessness! A State Governor, in a state that gets 13% derivation allocation, in additional to several billions of Naira as bailouts, is commissioning street lights with such fanfare!

Street lights are usually commissioned by Local Government Chairmen and Commissioner of Works, with less loud celebration, in states such as Lagos, Kaduna, etc...

Obaseki was a successful investment banker in Lagos, but has turned out as a failure in public service, in Edo State.

Huge disappointment!

Private sector success should also translate to public service success. Not sure where he went wrong- it seems when you start handling public funds with zero accountability it can affect your performance, since you can do as you please.

They support based on emotions and not reason. See how Edo State is suffering today because of falling cheaply for their emotional campaign. It is really a shame onto the Edo-no-be-Lagos crew. They have all lost their voices now.

The cruelty of our brothers from across the Niger knows no bounds. They were the people that supported this catastrophic failure of a governor the most, with their "Edo no be Lagos" bullshit.

Look at him today.

They just like throwing the worst set of politicians at people, just as they're trying to force the dirty dick called Obi down the throats of Nigerians.

It will never be well for the enemies of this country.
Couldn't have been better said. Look at what they plunged Edo State into today. Though I blame the gullible majority who fell for the idiotic Edo no be Lagos gimmick out of ignorance about the role which the Eastern Region people played in bringing about the age-long misgovernance in Nigeria.

Allow me put records straight.
I'm an edo man and I agree with most of the comments here that obaseki shouldn't have being the one present in such occassioning.

About your last sentence, they are not solar lamps. They are powered by the edo state gas power plant. It's the first of its kind in Nigeria. A state independent generating plant capable of powering the whole of Edo houses but for now the plant serves the street lights around edo state from (6 to 6) and some selected communities already enjoy 24hrs electricity.

Please where in Edo State is the gas power plant located? I am from Edo State too and as far as I know, Obaseki himself says it on his Facebook handle that the street lights are solar powered. Please visit his Facebook page to read this for yourself.

Please could you list the selected communities you claim are currently enjoying 24 hour electricity in Edo State or are you just trying to do some comedy?

We warn them but they didnt listen, now they have use they hands to bring a disaster and a failure upon themselves. how can a governer be commisioning a streetlight and calling that a project? For 6 years, upon all the billions that Edo is getting frm the FG. The laughable part is that this were done by oshiomole, he just replace them with new ones. Truly edo no be lagos
The primary school I attended in my hometown was rebuilt to world standard by Oshiomhole after it stayed in a delapidated state for over 30 years. During Obaseki's first term, he repainted it and erected a signboard by the entrance gate with his picture on it and claiming he renovated the school whereas Oshiomhole actually did the renovation. People who saw this deception of Obaseki in my hometown still went ahead and voted him for second term all in the name of fighting a phantom godfatherism. Today they are all foolishly surprised that Obaseki is himself the new aspiring godfather.
With such scenario you just realize Nigeria has a long way to go. And that is why I personally advocate the adoption of electoral college so as to tactically disenfranchise such stupid voters.

BETTER TO MAKE ENQUIRIES IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF A THING THAN TO SPEAK WITHIN HAVING IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF IT.

PEOPLE PREFERRED EZE IYAMU. AS A MATTER OF FACT HE WON THE FIRST ELECTION WHEN OSHOMOLE WAS LEAVING OFFICE BUT FEDERAL POWER DECLARED OTHERWISE. GO BACK AND CHECK THERE WAS PROTEST TO THAT EFFECT. EDO

DURING THE SECOND TERM INSTEAD OF REMAIN IN PDP AND RECLAIM HIS STOLEN MANDATE, HE RAN TO APC THINKING OSHOMOLE CAN STILL PULL STRINGS BUT THE PEOPLE HAS ALREADY REJECTED ANYTHING THAT RESEMBLES OR ASSOCIATE WITH OSHOMOLE HENCE OBASEKI WAS VOTED.

IT WAS A CASE OF CHOOSING LESSER EVIL TO A BIGGER EVIL EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW BOTH ARE EVIL.

RELATING THIS TO THE OBI YOU MENTIONED, IT IS THE REASON WHY ATIKU STILL HAS A CHANCE OF WINNING ESO STATE AHEAD OF TINUBU BECAUSE THE PEOPLE DONT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH APC AND BUHARI.

So from what you are seeing happening in Edo State now, do you still honestly believe Obaseki was a lesser evil to Ize Iyamu? If so, then how come Ize Iyamu, the bigger evil, was preferred in 2016 according to the same you? And how exactly did you come to the conclusion that Edo people prefer having Atiku, a Fulani, succeed Buhari - another Fulani, over Tinubu? If anything, only Obaseki and the few benefiting from him currently support a Fulani-Fulani succession. No rational thinking Edo State person would accept that. And majority of Edo people currently hate Obaseki and anything which has to do with him directly or indirectly.

Even the street lights are not working.
Ugbowo axis dead, Ikpoba hill dead, Sakponba Road nonexistent and others.
Obaseki is worse than failure
In Edo State we owe Lucky Igbinedion a heartfelt apology for hitherto labelling him the worst governor.

Well, Edo people didn't vote Obaseki because they love him. But they made sure they cancelled Oshiomole ....so they don't have a godfather like Tinubu collecting money from Lagos since 1999(an Osun man, controlling Lagos treasury) nor be juju be that

But how exactly was Oshiomhole trying to play godfather? This is the question those of you peddling this narrative have never been able to satisfactorily answer.
Now, ask yourself whether an ungodfathered Edo State is anywhere near Tinubu's allegedly godfathered Lagos.

The truth is that people voted for Obaseki for two reasons which were:
1. Buhari's alleged Fulanization agenda seemed to them a thing to be cancelled out by voting against APC
2. Bini people felt an Afemai person should not control Edo State politics. When their own Gabriel Igbinedion was playing the same godfatherism over Edo politics, didn't they obey him and voted his son, Lucky, for second term after a disastrous first term which his own father acknowledged in full public glare but quickly added that there was no vacancy in Osadebe House as he had paid for it for his son?

Please how has it been overcome? In my hometown we go for at least four to five days without electricity and then on the fifth day it comes for few minutes and goes again till another five days. Same with many other towns and villages. So how come we can't enjoy the gas plant?

Google Ossiomo power plant.
From my residence I can see the gas flares every night.
The communities closest to the plant are currently enjoying the most privilege so far, also the govt house, the house of assembly, national stadium ogbemudia, ED secretariat , ED business hub, most govt buildings are making use of the light already.
100% of the street lights on major Edo roads are powered by the gas plant.
