As we knock on the door of the new year, 2023, Nigerians are also charged with full expectations of how the next general elections in the country will go.

In the next General Election, the hope of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, may be considered still high purposely for some reasons, despite the assumptions that he lacks some political merits that are being enjoyed by other presidential candidates.

1) Position of the Southeast

Peter Obi hails from Anambra State, the Southeast geopolitical zone. His geopolitical zone, certainly, has not produced a President of the country since 1999 when the country returned to this democratic era.

There are agitations that the zone may need to produce the next president of Nigeria, so that the citizens of Nigeria from the region would have a sense of belonging to the course of the subject called Nigeria.

Considerably, with Peter Obi as the only son of the Southeast geopolitical zone who is still being featured in the top four political parties in the contest for the 2023 presidential poll, he enjoys the benefit of earning the support of many electorates from the Southeast geopolitical zone.

2) Southern Presidency

The continuous demand that the political parties and politicians across the country should respect power rotation from the North, back, to the Southern part of Nigeria is another major factor that encourages the hope Peter Obi to remain steadfast in the next presidential election.

Some of the socio-cultural groups in the Southern part of Nigeria and prominent southern politicians who are still, currently, keying into Peter Obi’s presidential candidacy are doing so, simply, because of this reason.

This is one of the few reasons that maintain the presidential hope of Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 general elections. The

3) Performance

The performance of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, when he was serving as the Executive Governor of Anambra State is another factor that keeps him in the heart of some electorates.

The report of Peter Obi’s performance as Governor of Anambra State is being projected by his promoters and it is, sincerely, another major reason that is keeping his presidential contest alive, even though the majority of the projects being accredited to Peter Obi are being challenged to have faded out.
