we do because we have our own exchange system where companies trade their stocks called NYSE (Nigerian Stock Exchange) Here, stocks are sold and represented by their companies' current value/performance. From Manufacturing to even medicine, different companies trade their stocks/shares on the exchange at different prices per unit of shares for investors to buy/sell. As earlier said the value of these units of shares is dependent on the current performance of the companies as well as market sentiments (other people's reactions to the stock/share value i.e demand/supply) which makes stocks a more volatile (risky) form of investment as one could gain or lose quickly depending on the stock/shares' current value.
Debt securities are considered safer because most of the returns are 'fixed' making interest payments a little lesser than stocks/shares/equities.
