Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (NSPM) told Nigerians that the new Naira notes in circulation are of the same excellent quality as the old notes, it was noted that when rubbed on simple white surfaces, the new notes leave traces of an Intaglio ink.

One of the materials utilized in the production of the notes is intaglio ink. The inks on the new Naira notes have drawn harsh criticism, especially because they bleed easily when the notes are dropped in water or rubbed against white surfaces.

In a statement signed and released by its Managing Director/Chief Executive Ahmed A. Halilu, NSPM stated that the new notes are of the same substrates and passed through the same printing processes and finishing procedures of old Naira notes. He stated that the ink is generally a security feature of all banknotes that easily differentiates them from forged or counterfeit notes.
