A Formidable Opposition, A Disruptive Catalyst For A Better Governance In Nigeri by Mologi(m): 8:29am On Jan 11, 2023
A strong opposition is the most ready to take over government, by manipulating the consciousness of the masses. By their continuous preying on the short comings of the incumbent, they rally for the support of the people.

Nigeria today, is witnessing a gradual change in her democracy and the people involved in this, may not understand their actions yet. Young people in Nigeria have taken it upon themselves to work as an opposition to the Nigerian government. A lot of people seems to forget that the presence of an opposition keep the incumbent on their toes. Apart from periodic elections, an opposition solidly give credence to a democracy, with its constructive criticism of the incumbent government.

Average Nigerians would probably tell you that they are going through the worst government. But, we forget that this present government did better as an opposition. They understood their work, they carried the people along with their continuous protest of the previous governments ineptitudes. They raised alarms where necessary and successfully garnered the support of the people.

For your information, a strong opposition create their own government ( albeit, without a leader). The opposition work with the fourth realm of the government to unravel any secret plans of the incumbent to make life difficult for the masses. They draw the people to themselves, by creating their own campaign promises. The opposition should normally be referred to as a thorn in the flesh of the incumbent. Journalists come to light to raise issues and investigate the government. Today, we see people with “Journalist” on their bio, openly campaigning for politicians.

For me, the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY is the worst opposition to ever come out of Nigeria. After PDP left office, they went radio silence, but only coming during elections to give their tickets to people who never worked for them. PDP forgot that an opposition is supposed be like a jealous co-wife who always crave for attention from the husband, by enticing the husband through different sapiential gimmicks bestowed on women by the Almighty. But PDP, like a man with erectile dysfunction, went to bed and slept away.

Labour Party came late to being an opposition. But in few months, has done better than the seven years of PDP. LP was in the category of the students Union guy running for president. Like PDP, his joystick only come to life during election or when he is trying to be a comic relief.

In conclusion, I started the first paragraph by writing that Nigerians are witnessing a disruptive moment in their democracy and the success of the positioning done by this oppositions can have a better government. In politics, electioneering and governing takes different approaches. The success of the former doesn’t always guarantee a better government, but a holistic attitude towards implementing what you have promised and criticised during opposition.
