Genuine folks, who want development, over to you. You can either start seeing through the crude deception of the PDP or keep falling for their cheap scam which sees them doing everything to discredit others in a desperate effort to return to power when , in the SW anyway, they are only capable of misrule and destruction. Beaf, PointB and co, the game is up . While your paymasters attack Aregbesola on the ground you have been paid to do similar in cyberspace. You will all fail. There is no way back for the PDP in the SW. Get used to it !!!!!!

Strike: How Osun PDP Hijacked Labour Leaders

Investigations have shown that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State had hijacked the struggle of workers in the state, using it as a means of destabilising the administration of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.
It was gathered that all efforts to make labour leaders in the state to see reasons with the government on the issue of minimum wage failed, because they (Labour leaders) enjoyed the backing of the PDP hierarchy, to make the state ungovernable.

Various negotiations between the state government and labour leaders had hit brickwall, as the latter refused to compromise, despite government shifting its ground for the third time since the negotiations commenced.
Findings revealed that prior to the inauguration of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola-led administration in the state, the PDP, through the state Head of Service, Elder Segun Akinwusi and the then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, infiltrated the labour union leadership, imposing their stooges on the unions.

The case between the factional leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state and that of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is still pending before court, where the aggrieved faction is seeking redress on the matters.
It was gathered that the PDP used the imposed leaders to break the rank and file of the unions and subdue the struggle of the unionduring the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The same set of leaders were said to be acting under the influence of their benefactors, to frustrate Aregbesola, so that he would be unable to deliver dividends of democracy to the teeming populace of the state, as they insisted that government should use funds meant for developmental project to pay wages.
Checks revealed that one of the labour leaders was traced to the dwelling house of a PDP chieftain, whose ambition of becoming a governor was thwarted and is looking for all means to discredit the present administration in the state.
One of the plans of the union leaders was to incite their members against Aregbesola by presenting him as being anti-workers, which explained the manner the TUC chairman, Comrade Francis Adetunji presented the state government’s position at their Fakunle Grammar School congress, after discussion with state government representatives.

He emphasised that the governor was deviant on the position of workers, when he called-in from Mecca, where he was performing the lesser hajj, creating the impression that his call halted the progress of the negotiation, a situation that further infuriated the workers against the governor.
Besides, the medium gathered that the opposition party, which had been looking for a means of attacking Aregbesola, seized the opportunity of the industrial crisis, to infiltrate the state work force, with a view to paralyzing government activities in the state.
So far, the trick seems to be working, as the labour leaders had succeeded in pitching the labour force against the state government, refusing all the proposals of the government, pushing the strike into its fourth week.
Also, the labour leaders had refused to present facts to back its claim, that the state governmenthave sufficient funds to pay the new wage across board, as they demanded on various occasions, when journalists requested for proof.
They (labour) accused the government of trying to give junior workers undeserved compensation at the detriment of senior civil servants.
At their congress at Fakunle Area of the state capital last Friday, after the state government had agreed to pay N19,001 to the least paid workers, the labour leaders vowed to continue staying at home until the government pays senior servants, even if it means removing the additional N1,000 it added to the least paid worker.

When Oyinlola only left crippling debt, Aregbesola has prudently saved over N8 billion declared publicly . They (the PDP) now want to use the workers to ensure the money is dissipated and no development is seen. Interesting to note the strenght of the PDP propaganda machine in cyberspace with how we don't see talk about the good being done by Aregbesola such as how housing loans , hitherto 300,000, is now 800,000. I have said it many times that no ACN government can ever be anywhere near as bad as the  "nest of killers" PDP Government it has replaced.

He attributed the basis for the demand of workers to their discovery that the present administration had been able to make sacrifice and saved some money, which is now in excess of N8 billion since it came on board, insisting that since the money is not regular, “we will not as a serious government say that we will use that money to pay for the unusual demands of the workers”

The car loan per beneficiary before we came on board was N250,000, but it had been increased to N750,000; the housing loan, which used to be N300,000, had been increased to N800,000 and these are things we had been doing without anybody prompting the state government

‘Osun Labour’s Claim on Govt Income Is Faulty’ •Govt Cautions Labour Leaders Against Misinforming Members

The Osun State government had declared as faulty and lies, the claim by the labour leaders in the state that the regular income of the state stands at N3.9 billion monthly.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere and his Special Duties Counterpart, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru made the declaration in Osogbo, the state capital last Thursday, at a press parley, called at the instance of the Commissioner for Environment, Professor (Mrs.) Monisola Oyawoye, saying that the labour leaders were only misinforming their members and the public.

Akere said that the labour knew that the position of the government on its financial capacity was the truth, noting that, what the labour leaders were quoting was the combination of the statutory allocation, the Value Added Tax (VAT), the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the Excess Crude Oil (ECO) Funds being saved by the government for the development of the state.
He stated that at every meeting they held with the labour leaders, traditional rulers and religious leaders, the government had made the documents concerning the statement of finances of the state accessible to workers, without any of the labour leaders presenting contradictory facts, adding that “the workers know that this is the first time labour will be negotiating with the government and they have access to all government’s income.
“By the demand of the labour leaders, which they say is N1.8m, they never mention the other commitment of the state government like pension, gratuity, debt servicing, OYES stipends and running cost among others. If we add all these expenses together with their demands, it will give N3,173,000,000 and this is far more than what comes to the coffers of the state government.

“They have forgotten that as a government, we are not responsible to workers alone, we must also be responsible for the development of millions of Osun people. Osun government is not fighting the workers and we had made it clear severally, but we would never deny the public what is supposed to be given to them because we want to satisfy the workers.

“This government had been protecting the interest of workers and nobody asked Governor Rauf Aregbesola when he paid the 13th month salaries for workers last year. The car loan per beneficiary before we came on board was N250,000, but it had been increased to N750,000; the housing loan, which used to be N300,000, had been increased to N800,000 and these are things we had been doing without anybody prompting the state government.
“We don’t want to believe that there are some people that are using the workers and that is why we had been appealing to them to come back to work, because, even the Federal Government that initiated the N18,000 minimum wage, only paid  levels 1 to 6, while level 7 to 17 benefitted only N900 increment. The workers know this and they have the table”, Akere stated.

Bashiru, also stated that the argument of workers that the income of the state monthly was N3.8 billion was new and faulty, noting that “we had met with the labour leaders on several occasions and none of them had challenged the figures presented by the government. So that figure of N3.8 billion by the state labour leaders is faulty.
“Aside that, in this year’s budget, we had budgeted for more than N80billion and let us now assume that the figure of N3.8billion by the workers is correct, and they are asking for N3.173billion, including gratuity and pensions, it means that, after paying the workers, we will have about N600 million left every month for the state to deliver. If you multiply this amount by 12, it means that the state, which the workers are supposed to be servicing, is now suffering”, he noted.
He attributed the basis for the demand of workers to their discovery that the present administration had been able to make sacrifice and saved some money, which is now in excess of N8 billion since it came on board, insisting that since the money is not regular, “we will not as a serious government say that we will use that money to pay for the unusual demands of the workers”.
The commissioner then appealed to workers to consider the interest of the state and return to work, with a view to be partners in the new deal by Aregbesola to take Osun to its vantage position in the comity of nations.

You people never stop amazing me. Why should Osun be the ONLY state not paying the minimum wage? Was he the absentee governor not one of those that agreed to the 18,000 wage? It is the job of the governor to find the money to pay, but heck, he has to be in the state first and not in Lagos.

If workers are paid rightly no one will go on strike. The world is evolving,so the state government should stop witch hunting. Was it a party that made him not appoint commissioners for more than 7 months!

With this ignorant statement it is clear there is no need for further discussions with you.

There is no "Witch hunt". Instead, there are real fiscal challenges . Please read the article and be reasonable. The Government of Osun has promised to pay N19,001 from level 1 to 7 when ,legally , they are only obligated to pay N18,000 for level 1 to 6. Everything , if Government and workers are partners in development and State wellbeing, will then fall within the parameters of negotiating for how and when the increased pay can be achieved.

You cannot just blindly ask for what the Government has no power to pay immediately. Oyinlola never saved a kobo. Rather, he plundered and left debts .  Aregbesola has prudently saved over N8 billion declared publicly to use for development purposes. This money is what everyone is fixated on. If the cost of prudence is the hassle Aregbesola is receiving, then where do we get off asking for decent leaders who can make everyone (not workers alone) better off ? How will States develop if some want to behave like unreasonable spoilt brats instead of responsible citizens willing to accepts the facts and act based on those facts?

It is almost a year since Oyinlola left! How can a state that wants to construct road across Osun,Oyo,Ogun and Lagos be complaining now. Why paying 19000,don't bite more than you can chew.Chief Akande should remind the government!

From your writing it is clear , for your own reasons, you are not at all predisposed to even minimally look at facts for the purpose of making conclusions disspassionately . Many have tried to get the Osun workers (possibly coerced and compromised) to see reason.

Osun Artisans have protested against the workers strike;

http://www.osundefender.org/?p=19308

and the student President has appealed with the workers to reconcile with the Government to no avail.

http://www.osundefender.org/?p=19303

This is not a callous Government either as was shown to you earlier. In fact, Aregbesola is working hard , with unsung initiatives, to better the lot of workers far more than Oyinola ever attempted.

The car loan per beneficiary before we came on board was N250,000, but it had been increased to N750,000; the housing loan, which used to be N300,000, had been increased to N800,000 and these are things we had been doing without anybody prompting the state government

In the end , reasonable people are only left to conclude that the workers are being instigated to behave irrationally. Of course the N19,001 can be paid but the Osun Government has not said it will be paid immediately. Let these agitators, if serious and not acting out a pre-planned script they have been paid for , sit with the Osun government and thrash out solid arrangement for how and when the salary increases will come on board. You cannot keep arguing blindly when it has been proven to you , beyond doubt and with real figures, that there is no insensitivity at work here. Osun , fiscally, cannot immediately accede to the demand of the workers. If the workers are eyeing the N8 billion , prudently saved, and meant to develop the State for the benefit of everyone , they should rightly be told to get real !!!!
