Wife of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua may be terminally ill with ovarian cancer if reports monitored on Wikileaks cable, an online whistle blower, are anything to go by. The release of this information, part of 251,287 cables on the website of the whistleblower also indicates that a deadly combination of lung cancer and the auto-immune disease, Churg Strauss Syndrome, accounted for the death of Umaru Yar’Adua in May 2010.
As recalled, the former first lady had as her pet project, the setting up of an International Cancer Center to be based in Abuja. An Estimated N10 billion have purportedly been raised for the project by the wife of the former president, nothing so far has been done as the site for the project along Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway, Abuja has been lying fallow.
Turai returned from Saudi Arabia last week and may be headed for the United Kingdom for medical care as she is reported to be suffering from ovarian cancer, the latest in a series of calamities besetting the political and biological families of the late leader since his death.
The latest report which was created in 2009 by US Ambassador Robin Sanders, identified Peter Galle, a German doctor and the Director of Internal Medicine at Universitats Medizin in Mainz, a city where Yar’Adua went for his last medical trip in Germany, as revealing that he diagnosed Yar’Adua with terminal lung cancer sometime in April 2008.
Dr. Galle was surprised that Yar’Adua had survived longer than expected. He also told US officials that reports of other ailments, such as Churg-Strauss syndrome and liver problems, were “accurate.”
Yar’Adua was a chain smoker and had continued smoking after he was diagnosed, according to a family source.
In April 2011, Yar’Adua’s first daughter, Maryam, lost a contest for the Katsina Central seat in the House of Representatives. The seat was previously occupied by her husband, Badamosi Kabir, but he has been in a London hospital since January when he fell into a diabetic coma. Yar’Adua’s brother, Lt. Colonel, Audu Abdullazeez, popularly known as “Audu Soja,” also lost his election in April as a deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in Katsina State.
