After wasting all this time.

The state lawmakers and the puppeteers in the executive pulling their strings have finally shown their hand.

Nigerians need to broaden the focus beyond the presidency (important though the presidency may be) and look hard at their state lawmakers and executives. It is a matter of life and death.

The states forcibly took over LG functions. The result?

This is why the garbage disposal in your neighbourhood is shit.
This is why the roads in your neighbourhood are shit.
This is why the primary health care centres in your community are shit.
This is why the streets are full of the mentally ill and the destitute.
This is why the drains are full of shit.
This is why the house and street numbering system is shit.
This is why your fire service is shit.

And so on.

There is a reason so many state governments are focusing on state police in constitutional amendment bills. They want to have a monopoly of force at the state level. That's all. It is a naked power grab and has little to do with more efficient policing.

If your state lawmakers (with your state governor pulling strings behind the scenes) voted against LG autonomy then they have no business being in government. Vote all of them and their party out next month. Your life depends on it.

One continues to wonder why local government accounts are still controlled by state governments.

State governments are unable to bring developments to the doorsteps of the citizens. Communities suffer largely because of poor funding. Funds which under normal circumstances should be allocated to local councils to make communities better are controlled by state governments.

Unfortunately we find the Senate filled with ex governors, who work hand in hand with governors and state assemblies to block the allocation from going straight from the federation account to the local government accounts.

Sincerely Nigeria can get better if this correction is made.

Local government chairmen are even worse than governors. Those guys rarely live within their locality cheesy

The party with a majority in the National Assembly and with the majority of governors and state houses of assembly is struggling to amend the constitution . Yet somebody who will have no governors and no National Assembly members is making promises that can only be delivered via a constitutional amendment.

Even worse, his followers believe he can deliver the promises without national Al assembly or governors supporting him.

Let’s not forget you need N/A to pass ordinary budget, approve ministers etc etc.

Perhaps you don't know that your first sentence is a huge indictment of the APC.

If a party has a legislative & executive majority at federal and state level - and it is still struggling to pass common sense legislation that is supported by the spirit (if not the letter) of the constitution - that party is useless and has no business being in government. The All Progressives Congress - we are talking to you.

Nigerians need to open their eyes wide and act in their own interests next month. The president is in far away Abuja - he knows next to nothing about your community issues. He doesn't know anything about your local hospitals, roads, markets and schools. It makes no sense to make an informed choice in presidential voting - and then go to sleep on LG, state and legislative elections that are far more relevant to daily living.

Vote wisely across the board.

Corruption in Nigeria flows from the very apex of Goverment to the bottom.

It is no surprise that Local government autonomy has been rejected by States houses of Assembly. Governors want to be in pole positions to commandeer and control local government resources, so they can handpick local government chairmen and swing them around with puppet strings.

On this very matter, you can never put the blames on the Federal government. The will to devolve powers and decentralise allocations has been consistently shown at the top, but state governments continually frustrate the efforts.

Very shameless set of thieving charlatans!

APC= Anti People Criminals.

If Buhari wants to leave the office a fair man, he should not accent to any of the bills presented before him until the LG Autonomy bill is included. The majority of the NA members are former governors so, they feed fat on LG funds through the governors who replaced them or in same party with them. I wish the ALGON would protest over this.

A better Nigeria is coming

I think we Nigerians have not suffered enough to stand up against the national assembly. We are in big trouble under these politicians. Their rejection of local government autonomy is enough reason for you not to vote for your current assembly members and returning governors.

No it is not, it happens everywhere that the party in power votes against a proposal of the executive bill from the same party especially a constitutional amendment. Perhaps you should watch more CNN and SKy news instead of Africa magic all the time.

It’s just a statement of fact. It just tells you how hard it is to amend the constitution. The National Assembly has already passed many amendments to the costitution but waiting for state houses of assembly to ratify. If anything credit should be given to APC for amending the constitution in bits which is what they are trying to do. PDP tried but failed to make any amendments.

Your statement is a very stupid statement.

Nigerians don't have time for party infighting that delays or obstructs the passage of common sense legislation. No time. Legislative gridlock is not an excuse. Dress it up all you want - the issues are very clear.

And...Africa magic is too highbrow for me. I found the content too sophisticated and difficult to understand... so I went for something simpler. wink

These are puerile excuses for an abject failure to deliver. This failed party had 8 years to act on an issue as critical as constitutional reform...but because failure is embedded in the party DNA, all you have is excuses. There's no time to listen to this. No time!
