We Foiled 66 Attempts To Hack FEC Virtual Meetings – FG by ManirBK: 8:17am On Jan 27, 2023
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, yesterday says 66 attempts by hackers from Europe to compromise the virtual meetings of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) were foiled. Pantami said all the cases were reported to the appropriate authorities for the record and actions. He spoke in Abuja at the 19th edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Administration Scorecard Series (2015-2023). He noted that no fewer than 108 virtual federal cabinet meetings had been held since the National Policy on Virtual Engagements for Federal Public Institutions in October 2020 to formalise government online meetings including those of the FEC and the Council of State.
He said that for the implementation of the virtual meetings, Nigeria would have spent over N47 billion holding physical meetings. He said no fewer than 2.2 million jobs had been created in the nation’s digital sector in the last three years. Pantami attributed the challenges in telecommunications to infrastructure deficit and vandalisation of fibre optic cables. He said in one particular year about 13,000 cases of vandalisation of fibre optic cables were recorded in several locations across the country. The minister put broadband penetration as of November 2022 at 46. 2 per cent, and quarterly revenue generation from the ICT sector at N408 billion. On why the government had not been able to track kidnappers who used telephone calls to reach families of captives for ransom negotiation despite the SIM card registration, he said, “This falls under cybercrime. Cybercrime is under the office of the national security advisor and other security institutions. “Our role in cyber security is to ensure we minimize the possibility of a criminal deploying technology to commit a crime. So our work is proactive. At the same time, if the crime is committed and our intervention is required officially then we are going to intervene. “So, here when it comes to minimizing the probability of criminals committing a crime, we need to reintroduce the national NIN and civil registrations. Two, we enforce the NIN registration. NIN registration is by our law in Nigeria, NIN is mandatory for all citizens.”

What this man is saying does not make sense and I cannot understand why the office of the NSA will be in charge of cybercrimes when we have a ministry of communication that can work effectively in dealing with such. But as Idris Abdul-Kareem would say : " Nigeria jaga-jaga ; everything scatter-scatter ..." undecided

The ignorance in high places within officialdom in Nigeria, is frightening!
Any discerning mind knows that this countrys businesses are being conducted in nany very vulnerable ways, especially these days that many countries and organizations, go out of their ways to eavesdrop on the discussions/negotiations/policy making patterns of different countries in other to shape events in ways favorable to them. Nigeria being the biggest economy in Africa, will always be on their radar.

To start with, Aso Rock the Seat of Power was built from scratch to finish by Julius Berger a foreign company! Make of that whatever you wish, but if you think that Julius Berger will say no to the German government or The American government if they demand for all the security details of Aso Rock from them, then you are living in a fools paradise. If you even trust all the electronic wirings there, then you are absolutely naive! China built The AU house in Addis Ababa and bugged the whole place! Boeing once refurbished a presidential plane for the Chinese president and bugged the whole thing! Meanwhile in Ghana, the presidential palace was built and donated to them by the Indian government with fanfare!

Here in Nigeria, Most of the high level executive communications are conducted with open apps like The zoom! I mean the former Minister of Aviation, Chidoka, was lamenting the other day that when he was a minister, he reported to the then president Goodluck Jonathan, the fact that ministers were communicating through email platforms like "Gmail and Yahoo"! I mean, how hopeless can a country be!? You send presidential and ministerial messages through Gmail and have your virtual meetings through Zoom, all foreign platforms and then come out the next day to praise yourself about how you stopped some foreign hackers!? Do they even have any need to hack you after these?

What do they discuss at the FEC meetings that so important that any country would want to have access to? You should instead tell us how you prevented spying access to Buhari's or Osinbajo's phones - because those are the most important ones.
