According to Forbes magazine a leaked report indicates Facebook as the worlds largest social

network, earned $500 million profit on revenues of $1.6 billion in the first half of 2011

practically doubting it's 2010 performance, Facebook expanded it's user base to a whopping

750 million and has taken one-third of all ad impressions served in the US. ( more than

Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, and AOL together).

Did you or people you know joined Facebook because of the owner or where he comes from? Or simply because you enjoy and make use of the free social network?

The information came from a leaked document and facebook makes most of its money from advert revenues. Mark earns one million dollars salary as the ceo besides the stocks he holds in the company which is worth billions. He is not even 30 yet. No pun intended guyz he deserves it, jew or no jew.

You answered the question yourself; advertising. Imagine more than half a billion (500 million) use Facebook few of whom are business (small, medium and large and even corporation, govt, non profits etc). Repeated advertising is the most income generator. Post an ad for a few $$$ that have the ability of 500 million audience, imagine when 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 , up to 10million businesses and entities advertise repeatedly with different themes. An average business will spend about $50 or more monthly to place an ad on Facebook, multiply that by a potential of 1 million business x 12 months, I believe that should answer your question. Keep in mind that games, apps, as well as other stuff brings in revenues as well.

Imagine how many million phones have the rights to download the Facebook app. There's a royalty paid to FB for every FB app downloaded. Not only phones, you now have other electronic devices, even commercial licensing of the site and so. the revenue stream is endless. For $1.6billion, I think it's small keeping in mind they valued the company at almost $50billion. Look at Craigslist, them make double / triple digit (in millions) in profit annually. eBay is another prime example though they are not a social network but bottom line is the

Adverts on facebook performs better than even google ads which is more niche targeted, is a development that baffles me as well.
Good product +massive investment=BIG MONEY. It works for every biz, we will all not be Mack but we all can grow our various businesses to the same level as facebook with determination, focus, the right environment and the opportunities.

Facebook is valued at 50 billion USD, makes 500m USD from sales revenue of 1.6 billion USD, is planning to float consecutively on three international stock exchanges and private equity investors are just looking for an 'exit point', just  do the maths and put the pieces of the 'jigsaw puzzle' together

My opinion, 'greater fool theory' at work once again!
