There was apprehension on Monday as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) h postponed its presidential rally scheduled for Tuesday in Oyo State following the protests rocking the state over the scarcity of new naira notes and petrol.

The presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had been billed to visit Ibadan Tuesday in continuation of his presidential campaign.

Many of the stakeholders and various support groups of the party who have already mobilised to Ibadan, the Oyo state capital were hugely disappointed by the development.

The Oyo state chapter of the party in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare said it will no longer be holding the campaign rally as earlier planned.

The party noted that the postponement became necessary in view of the crisis caused by the scarcity of the new naira notes and petrol.

The statement read in part: “We regret to announce the indefinite postponement of our presidential rally earlier slated for tomorrow (Tuesday). The decision was taken, apparently, in consideration to the prevailing challenges facing the people and the need to allow President Muhammadu Buhari work around the situation and ensure that normalcy returns particularly as it concerns fuel and currency notes crisis.

“At Oyo APC, we were convinced that it was necessary to go ahead with the event in order not to play into the hands of some anti-democratic forces who do not want the nation’s general election to go on as scheduled because they feel the outcome of the poll, this time, would produce a new order capable of returning Nigeria to Nigerians.

“Although, a new date is yet to be announced, I can assure the general public that Oyo State will host Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in no time and it is going to be a huge success. However, we appeal for calm among the citizenry as we must not lose focus on doing all that is necessary to ensure the fruition of the dream to have Tinubu as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Speaking with Daily Independent, a Director of the APC Presidential Campaign who asked not to be named said the party took the decision late Sunday night to suspend the rally given the tense political situation in Oyo state.

According to him, since the state’s Chief Security Officer, Governor Seyi Makinde has suspended his campaign activities until further notice over unending fuel and new naira-note crisis in the state, the APC felt it will be unwise for it to hold a rally in the state.

He however said the party will continue its rally in other parts of the country and will fix a new date to hold the rally in Oyo after the situation improves.

“We apologise to our teeming supporters who came from all parts of the country and are already in Oyo state for the abrupt notice. But given the circumstances that we find ourselves, we believe that is the best decision to take”.

“The party thought it wise to suspend the presidential rally given the crisis witnessed in major parts of Oyo state as a result of the fuel and naira scarcity.

“ Already, the state governor, Seyi Makinde, who is the Chief Security Officer of Oyo state has suspended his campaign until further notice. The governor also said that the suspension was in solidarity with the people over the harrowing experiences in recent time over unending fuel and new naira-note crisis in the state”.

“We believe as the ruling party in Nigeria, it will be unwise and insensitive for us to go ahead with the rally tomorrow. It may hurt the people’s sensibilities and we are a pro-people party who also share in the pain of the people. We will come to Oyo at a later date after the situation has improved”.

After the big flop campaign in katsina yesterday despite President Muhammadu Buhari and APC governors present , I expect Tinubu to cancel all his remaining campaigns because he's been rejected by all Nigerians .

Tinubu has been the only one crying up and down the whole place over President Muhammadu Buhari new naira redesign policy and that's because , Tinubu do not have organic followers like Mr Peter Obi

The katsina campaign yesterday recorded low turn out despite Buhari and APC governors present because of 3 reasons

1. The cashless policy has made it difficult for Tinubu to rent crowds from neighbouring states as usual for his rallies

2. APC failed in every sector of the economy

3. Tinubu is too old, unhealthy and extremely corrupt .

In most states Labour party dont have candidates for various offices....infact they only have presidential candidate in many states....so who will mobilize supporters for LP campaignss
Unlike APC that has candidates for all positions...its these candidates that mobilize their supporters.....theres no way a campaign ground will not be full if you have over 30 candidates mobilizing supporters there

When he was in Lagos for his Campaign, he forced market men and women to lock there shops and go to his campaign or else they will lose there shops .

Peter Obi stands a far more better chance of winning this election than Tinubu. Peter Obi isn't paying, bribing or forcing anyone to be in his rallies and yet he shuts down.

We saw Peter Obi campaign in Zamfara , Gombe , Kaduna Bauchi and the turn out was massive even without giving shishi
