Re: Shame On Nigerian Webdesigner by yawatide(f): 9:32pm On Sep 09, 2011
Are you just now seeing this site? It has been the butt of jokes on here at least 2 or 3 months ago.

As I said then, and will say now, the site under OBJ and Yardy, as bad as it was then, was better than it is now.

I will throw this one in for size: Looking at the footer, I see, "Office of the SSA on ICT". Assuming SSA stands for at least "Special Adviser", I say the person needs to be fired and the person's pay demanded as a refund, retroactively.

Dunno why you people are bother over what doesn't bother the riders. They give no damn about those. To them, it's just formality.

Layout --> CRAP
Images --> BULLSHIT
DOM Structure --> NONSENSE

Infact everything about the site is CRAP. . Even my jnr sis wud design something thats 100x better(no jokes). I cant believe they actually let that site go online. . Oh and again what exactly is a login link doing on such a site?

To cut them some slack (and believe me, I had to dig real deep to find that slack grin), I could argue that by wanting people to register on the site, perhaps they want to maintain a database of maybe professionals they could easily contact in the future. Or maybe they have a base to which they could send newsletters.

1 year ago or so, I had offered on this forum to spearhead a project where all those interested would come together and design/develop what the ideal Nigerian government website would look like. We would then advertise it and turn it over to the government, for free. I had only 3 responses (to get the project going, I was expecting at least 20). Many who didn't respond were looking at the immediate monetary benefits. Sadly, they couldn't see the long term benefits (advertising one's self to a global audience, with the potential income to boot). Heck, worse case, we could create jobs by getting the brightest computer science graduates who are attending NYSC to do the whole thing. Anyone still game?

Everything about that site has to go: Design, Site architecture, SEO, Code, maintenance, management. What pisses me off the most is that it wasn't developed by some company in the private sector but by the office of the SSA on ICT. One would think that since ICT is broad that maybe the department has a department that deals with the internet.

Yup! if i had been on here more often, i woulda been part of it. But if you still have plans of reviving the initiative, then why not? Maybe a thread that gets to frontpage will increase the awareness. Hmmm, money, still wonder why Nigerians dont look at the big picture but are always interested in immediate peanuts. Shame men!
