No Madam, it is not.
Otherwise please cite me the section of the Criminal Code that renders it a crime.

When is this nonsense stop? Why is defamation / slander / libel being criminalized by the powerful in Nigeria? These are civil wrongs for which one can be sued, not crimes for which one is to be prosecuted. This really needs to stop!

What do you expect?

The average Nigerian knows not the difference.

Also, with the kind of judiciary we have in this country, it will be a real hassle to challenge someone of the eediot governor's standing.

Like someone rightly said: POWER IS POWER

Defamation is a CIVIL offense, NOT a criminal offense…
Thus, if Mr. Governor alleges defamation, he should file a CIVIL suit for monetary damages.

Unfortunately, in Nigeria, those with power ABUSE the criminal justice system for personal purposes.

CRIMINAL DEFAMATION UNDER THE NIGERIAN LAW

There is a legal remedy for fake news…

If you are one of the people using social media to cause chaos you will soon be caught. Social media is not meant for defamation of character. Go and learn. Use the net for better things. Your age mates in other countries are not doing that. Use your youthful age for something profitable.

I don't know what's wrong with all of them.

Some persons will go online and write all manner of nonsense and spread rumours about another person and look for who to blame when they're called for questioning.
