What If All Opposition Parties Withdraw From Future Electoral Processes? by herald9: 1:43pm On Mar 12, 2023
Nigeria recently conducted it's presidential elections in February, 2023 and it was marred by massive rigging, voters suppression, disenfranchisement, threat and large-scale violence. Nevertheless, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has gone ahead to announce and issued a certificate of return to the alleged winner, Sen. Bola Tinubu.

In the ensuing appeal by Labor Party, INEC has flagrantly disobeyed the court order by blatantly refusing LP access to inspect electoral materials to consolidate the exhibits for their appeal.

My question is: What If All Opposition Parties Withdraw from Future Electoral Processes In Protest?

The idea of opposition political parties withdrawing from the electoral process due to foul play by the electoral commission is not a new phenomenon. In fact, it has happened in many countries around the world.

Should political parties take this route since we have completely lost faith in the independence and neutrality of INEC?

The constitution is very clear on elections and electoral conducts.

For that idea to work it means that every political party, except APC, will have to boycott the elections

The problem with that is that APC will always find a way to get one or two of the parties to participate through monetary inducements

True. I never thought of this.

But they'll get tired in the long run.

Remember the story of Megamind?

That's going to be great!
At least we know there will be no horse trading and all the violence and killings occasioned by political thuggery. That will be a win win for Nigerians as charlatans like Obi will be put where they belong to.

That will be a very grave mistake. You are simply giving the ruling party an easy win. The law says if its one person that come to vote it should be counted. Opposition parties tried it with OBJ but only gave obj and pdp easy win.

Just keep trying and dont give up

Recall the parties that formed APC have been trying for 16 years before the right allignment of forces made them win in 2015

So you're elated by the idea of an autocratic government? Then let's put democracy to bed. As you confess, Africa isn't ready for true democratic process. We're just wasting time, resources and people's lives for this faux electoral exercise.

Suffer never tire you, your family members or those in your community. Very soon, another round of APC higher level will be activated, and you continue to turn in circles because Obi is your only problem.

Remember the story of Megamind?

They will never get tired, how do you think some presidents in Africa have ruled for over 30 years, situations happened like this at some point, as long as they have people willing to form fake political parties for money, they will keep holding elections, if Tinubu is allowed to have his way then APC might rule for the next 24 or 48 years because it will bye bye to credible election process.

They might even end up changing the constitution for 3rd term or more, what a lot of people who are supporting Tinubu don't know is that if Tinubu is allowed to have his way, their will power has been further take away.

Elections are supposed to represent the will of the people but if that election is rigged against the will of the people then someone just took away the power of the will of the people, tomorrow he will do the same thing, next tomorrow another person will also do the same and might only keep getting worse.

It happened in Liberia, it was so bad that at some point, people who came out to vote were lined up and they were cutting off their hands for coming out to vote or vote for a political party, some people don't know how bad rigging elections are and how far it can go, it took the intervention of America during George Bush's tenure then who sent troops to remove Charles Taylor and asked OBJ to grant him asylum in Nigeria.

Is that how low we want our electoral process to get before we get it right?
