As already known, the closest and arguably the hottest gubernatorial election in the country was that of Kaduna State. The slim win margin was 10,806.
APC got 730,002
PDP got 719,196
LP got 58,283
During the presidential election, LP got 294,494 mainly from Christians, especially those from Southern Kaduna. In the buil-up to the gubernatorial elections, CAN asked all its members to vote for PDP's Isa Ashiru Kudan,a Muslim whose running mate was a Christian from Southern Kaduna. They asked the Christians to not vote for the LP as they did in the presidential election because LP's Jonathan Asake, even though a Christian and a former leader of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, could not garner enough votes to defeat the ruling APC which fielded a strong Muslim-Muslim ticket in the persons of Senator Uba Sani and Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, a female from Southern Kaduna.
Despite the call by CAN, LP still got 58,283 votes, representing almost 20% of what the party got in the presidential race.
Now, if you add the votes of PDP and LP, you have a total of 777,479. This figure is 47,477 higher than the 730,002 the APC got to be declared winner.
While the PDP is mourning this narrow and painful loss, CAN must be blaming the LP, the very party they so energetically campaign for during the presidential election, for being the real game changer in favour of the APC and, by extension, the cunning outgoing Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Without LP, Atiku would have been the next president.

That's why you should never be sentimental when voting for candidates. The votes LP got during the presidential election was enough reason for Jonathan Asake not to step down for PDP because he felt he had an opportunity to spring up his political value, which eventually cost both the PDP and LP.
Personally, I don't mind an Uba Sani administration. He is way more "sound" than. Ashiru kudan. What I don't like is the way religion has been used as a tool deceive the majority of APC supporters because most of them voted APC simply to assert the muslim/Muslim ticket in Kaduna. It's a pity
