Buhari set to flag-off third oil field in Northern Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to flag-off the Third Oil field in Northern Nigeria on Wednesday.

DAILY POST reports that this was contained in a public announcement on Monday by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The oil field is located in Ebenyi at the Headquarters of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The flagging-off is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 March 2023.

It is the second oil field in the North Central region; the first was the Ibaji Oil field in Kogi state.

In the history of Nigeria’s exploration, the Ebenyi Oil field is the third in Northern Nigeria; the first was Kolomani, located in the Bauchi/Gombe axis.

15 January 1956 was the first time Nigeria discovered crude oil in commercial quantity in Oloibiri, a community in the Niger Delta region.

Nasarawa: President Buhari To Flag Off Oil Exploration On Tuesday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 flag off the Ebenyi-A Exploration Well located at Obi Local government Area of Nasarawa State.

The flag-off by the President will mark the exploration of crude oil in Nasarawa State by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd.

The NNPC made this known via its official Twitter handle on Monday evening, March 27, 2023

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital & New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi via his Twitter handle said;

It would be recalled that the NNPC had commenced exploration activities in the state in 2010 and had found a significant amount of oil in the state.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, Mele Kyari during a meeting with the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule last January said the company would continue to do its best to bring immediate value to Nigerians

Good! It will lead to more revenue and jobs.

But mismanagement and corruption go still dey rampant there too.

We also need to diversify our economy and work towards being a production dependent economy

The North is extremely blessed and I hope that by now they will be willing to divide the country so they can have all their wealth to themselves.

They have oil now and lithium and other resources they're using Boko Haram to guide....

Ebenyi Obi local government in nassarawa....the names keep ringing a bell. Those names have no relationship with Hausa or fulanis.

Who are the owners of that community.

Because we do not use the resources to produce manufactured goods that would be useful to the world at large.

Instead, we sell most of our raw materials...at prices we do not set. meaning that revenues are never stable, meaning we remain poor in the midst of plenty.

Division is not going to happen because North has oil.

Because the North has to transport the oil to the sea for export...and the problem is, in a divided Nigeria, it may end up paying transit fees for the oil to reach export terminals, which may eat up a large chunk of export revenue.

A united Nigeria is beneficial to the North than a divided one. Most landlocked African countries have one prayer...free access to the sea. That is why that railway to Niger is going to benefit Nigeria long term, they will be paying back the cost of building it in transit fees and other costs over the years.
