The bill is dead on arrival and here is why,

1) There is a temporary provisional license with which you use to practice for 2yrs and do your housemanship before it expires after graduation. That license Is just to show ppl that you have the right to touch patients for a time period after graduation during which you must have complete your housemanship. Maybe that license will now be increased to 5yrs due to the bill but that will now make the stress to hurriedly look for housemanship slots easy, and make the graduates focus on getting UK qualifications first.. It is that graduation letter with IELTS and not the provisional license(or the permanent license gotten after housemanship), that is needed to be submitted to examining body in the UK to start the process of writing their exams. And once you pass the exams you must register under GMC within 2yrs with evidence of housemanship. The graduation certificate, your one year housemanship evidence(which you can now do after passing plab2), grin your IELTS and the pass of the two exams that are the Koko requirement to prove that indeed you are a doctor that can practice in UK unsupervised. grin grin grin grin

You only need evidence of your Naija full license or provisional license when you are applying for visa.

2) There is also no requirement for the full license to practice as a doctor after housemanship by the GMC in uk grin. Because once you have passed English test, plab 1 and 2 (even without housemanship for those who can afford to leave the country immediately after graduation and face UK), they can do their housemanship in the UK and get UK license directly with just their university certificate. That one is a bit more competitive but if you can get slot before you even apply or finish your housemanship here, you can just go to the UK straight as an fy1 grin grin grin grin grin grin

Now this is what will be happening, Alot of Nigerian doctors will make it a duty and goal to leave before that 5yrs expiration just to show the legislators that they can keep their permanent license cheesy cheesy cheesy
Thank you

My problem with this country is that we will all shout and shout and shout, yet they will pass the bill that medical practitioners must stay for 5years and they will not do anything about the "bill" raised by Eedris Adulkareem!

Politics na scam as far as Nigeria is concerned. Our polithiefians will never pass a law that favours the masses and doesn't favour them. It's all about them!

in saner climes, it cost alot for medical student to be trained ranging from about 150million - 200Million naira to become a doctor, this foreign doctors owe student debts their entire life. In nigeria it cost only about less than N500,000 in a public institution with no debts. This cheap education is subsidized by tax payers fund, only for this medical students to complete studing for close to free medical courses in nigeria, their next motive is travelling abroad. this is unfair to the scope of nation building, the stand of the HORs isnt perfect, but its a right step in a right direction for the long run.

Is any one contesting that?!!

Is that the thrust of this thread?!!

All we are saying is... You can't restrict doctors from leaving after graduating, yet permit elected leaders to use medical facilities abroad!

Who are the facilities here meant for??! Only average Nigerians?!! Come on!

Don't just compel doctors to stay back for years yet fail to upgrade the facilities they have to work with and their wages/allowances!

re we not paying our politicians my brother, the politicians should start from their self, thy take our money to other countries. Our Nigerians doctors that re leaving re sending money back home. What is our politicians giving?? Their years in office is sponsor by our tax. It is hypocrisy to say thy shouldn't go out. But politicians are going out.

those saner climes have health facilities spanning for century, ours best put isnt a decade old.

Such excuses are so lame!

You keep saying that Nigeria is younger than those advanced nations hence the reason things are this pedestrian here, but you fail to realize that when those nations were Nigeria's current age, they were ahead of where we are currently... Or the fact that there are nations that gained independence the same time frame as Nigeria and are ahead!

This nation is not growing at pace with her age, and this should never be sugarcoated or denied by making such comparisons.

Anambra nko

Okay... Anambra is underdeveloped and Obi is a failure!

So now, does that excuse an elected president leaving the nation he campaigned and fought to lead to other nations for medical care?!!

If he doesn't believe in Nigeria's health care system, even that of the very Lagos he brags about, then of what use is he as president?!!

And nobody has asked how many Nigeria families can afford that amount comfortably, when the say over 100million live below the poverty line we get upset....how can u be comparing a sane clime with ours....how many of those passing the bill will allow themselves to be treated in Nigeria for a serious issue...none!

Tinubu build lagos finish, but goes to Europe for his medical. It is the blind followers I blame.

The blind and mentally deranged followers are those that think Peter Obituary will make Nigeria better, a man that ruled and looted Anambra state for 8 years, then ran to Lagos to live while 45% of Anambra indegenes are selling Gala and La Casera inside Lagos holdups and sleeping under Lagos bridges, 15% are in prisons all over the world for drugs trafficking, 15% are running baby factories all over Lagos, 10% are manufacturing fake drugs, 5% are doing human trafficking, 5% are doing prostitution in hotels all over the world, while only 5% are doing legal business.

Your bias won't let you see that it's outrageously expensive to get any real BSc degree, not just medical degree, in that same abroad.

It won't also allow you see that most countries in Europe offer their citizens extremely high quality but extremely cheap education.

It won't also let you see that medical education is not the only cheap education in Nigerian public higher institutions. All public education in Nigeria is subsidized. Even a cow knows this.

Educate yourself and open your mind.

Are Jiji premium paid ads worth it?

If No, what are other better places to advertise gadgets like phones, laptops, cars?.

Yes, they are worth it. Nairaland.com too is a good marketplace, it's just that they price thing anyhow here.

I concur with his opinion...
This will make them to urge their state governors and the FG to rehabilitate the existing hospitals and equips the facilities more.

I support this bill to be moved to second and third reading.

The government is wicked.

They are blocking everywhere to prevent Nigerians from migrating abroad.

Even for the UK needing teachers.

TRCN has refused to send LOP to UK Teaching Regulations. Since February it started. This is April. Nobody had been successful.

The government have instructed them to not send our letters to UK. Give graduate teachers jobs, no way. Pay teachers good salaries, no way. Yet you dont want them to move in search of greener pastures while ur children are moving in and out daily.

If Withcraft has a Name, it's Nigerian Government.

Na dem go still loose at the end becos Nigerian Teachers will dump the stupid Nigerian Teaching License and Process and will find their way straight to the UK on their own regardless.

When they get there, they will do the IQTS and get the jobs immediately.

There is what we called critical skills category, what a nation needs to survive; teachers, farmers, doctors, nurses are in this category.
Nope.
Nigeria is not a communist country where workers can be coerced for the "good" of the state.
It doesn't matter what you call it. Slave labour has no other name.

What's the correlation between your post and what Eedris said?

Also, who told you medical studies cost less than 500k?

Even without ads, phone sells like pure water there. When you upgrade with ads, then your sales becomes limitless.
