Charges against Tinubu Dropped, Trial Adjourned To October 26
By NewsAdmin on September 21, 2011

The trial of the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Code of Conduct Tribunal opened on Wednesday. The Action Congress of Nigeria leader is facing charges for operating foreign accounts while he served as Governor.

Security was tightened around Jabi area where the trial held. Some members of the Action Congress of Nigeria who had travelled to Abuja in a show of solidarity with their leader, Tinubu were prevented from getting near the venue as roads were cordoned off.

On hand to defend the former Governor were notable Senior Advocates like Wole Olanipekun, Rotimi Akeredolu, Niyi Akintola and Deji Sasegbon.  The prosecution team was led by Alex Izinyon.

The leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria too was well represented at the trial. Governors Abiola Ajimobi and Rauf Aregbesola were in attendance while Cardinal Odunmbaku, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as well as the Action Congress of Nigeria caucus in the National Assembly came to show support.

When the session commenced, the Prosecution filed an application to amend the initial 10 count charge to 3 counts.  The defence team did not object to the amendment of the charges but made an observation that it had already filed a motion to challenge the jurisdiction of the matter. It was later admitted that the motion stands, despite the amendment.

After the arguments put forward by the prosecution and defence teams, the Tribunal adjourned the case to October 26, 2011.

An epidemic of wasted time comprising countless hours, days and money spent on trials with little to show for it.
A perfectly coordinated REVOLUTION like there is no tomorrow by all Nigerians is what we need. Nothing else will revamp this country.
Revolution doesn't discriminate; every political parties will be vacuumed from the top to the bottom.

I don't see a reasons why a serving Governor should abandon state duties and go and seat in a court house.

Why don't you go through the constitution and find a charge on that - that seems to be all GEJ's govt. is capable of achieving by 2015.

You will reap what you sow. Today, it is Tinubu answering to whatever charge(s) the "law" brought against him (and rightly so if according to the law), but "turn by turn" is the name of the game.

Some people here just post comments without deep thinking.Pdp want an end to tinubu rule in south west so that they can siphon the remain resource as they have done to other part of the country. This is what they did to bola ige. When they realised that ige is a stumbling block and there is no offend to nail ige, they decided to kill him. They succeded in hijacking south west for four yeas without any meaningful achievement. IFtinuba carcus is gone, pls do we have any other parties that can checkmate pdp?And moreover, and for those calling for revolution,i think it is iminent.Nothing seems to be working.Something must be done before they, the ruling party, increase fuel to #200 per litre.

i do subscribe to due process but my concern is why is it that only tinubu was singled out of the many accused former governors like Odili, igbinedion etc, i suspect some foul play.
Re: Tinubu’s Trial Adjourned To October 26 by Demdem(m): 11:52am On Sep 22, 2011
^^^^^^^^^^^^

Tinubu’s present travail is traced allegations made by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on October 17, 2007. The bureau had listed him among 15 former governors that breached its code on asset declaration.

The other former governors are Dr. Sam Egwu (Ebonyi State), Chief Achike Udenwa (Imo), Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna) Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi), Gbenga Daniel (Ogun), Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun), Boni Haruna (Adamawa), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Lucky Igbinedion (Edo), and James Ibori (Delta).

Tinubu is the first of the affected former state chief executives to be arraigned before the tribunal by the bureau.

Since the tribunal summoned Tinubu, the case has generated a lot of controversy in the polity. His appearance yesterday split politicians into opposing camps on the rationale or otherwise of reopening the case.

While some said that the trial was a politically motivated because Tinubu caused the ruling PDP much pains, others said President Goodluck Jonathan had just kick-started his war against corruption, choosing the “untouchables” as his starting point.

is code of conduct tribunal the issue at hand now?could relatives of people who were killed in UN House take stand on that or the relatives of Jos crisis vitims have time to be involved in wichhunting?maybe when Jonathan's son or daughter or wife is a partaker of BOKO HARAM ways of showing grieviances, that man who called himself the president would learn to be serious. To me he is not serious.I do not imaging barrack obama leaving issue of great concern for political vitimization. The reason for code of conduct tribunal is just to retaliate Bode George sentence.GEJ is too inept.he is not fit to be chairman of local government let alone president of a country.
