Yes. I totally agree with Banky W, but the problem I have with a lot of people is that they don't practice what they preach

Please, apart from Banky's factual opinion, let all of us, including politicians and religious leaders; learn to practice what we preach....it will make the world a better place. Happy Sunday

Exactly.

This should be the message to all those who lost out in the recent elections at all levels particularly the storied Presidential elections.
That though you have right to seek justice and though the process was fatally flawed and though through push back the system will be sanitized for the benefit of all now and in the future,

But the fact is that service for a cause is not exclusively in the position of authority. In a democracy service is also in opposition and where there is credible, vibrant and intellectually based opposition democracy thrives and becomes a positive instrument for development.

This Nigeria has lacked in the 5th Republic. The 16 years of the PDP never had one and so the governments did as they pleased to the nations loss, the past 8 years was no better. This time around there is a chance to put things right by those who have lost standing in the office of government 'in waiting'. By scrutinizing every policy and program of government from day 1, criticizing the wrongs and offering better solutions.

That is service and that is the easiest way to get into power, because it will be abundantly clear to the citizenry that such offerings are better than what they are presently given.

For the parties that lost out they should rally round, form teams of technocrats and begin the task of 'shadow governance'. There is a wide enough media space to sell their alternate ideas to the public who will in turn pressurize the government to act appropriately and when the government CANNOT or WILL NOT act accordingly then the outcome of the next elections is certain.

That’s my point because I know Banky won’t give up. He’ll have to leave the PDP. Let’s hope he chooses the right party this time

So what if he wants to run for office? ... why some people have a problem with him running but not a problem with others? Even if he is using this to win votes in 2027 ... isn't he doing something to benefit the community? What are the other aspirants doing? ... what has the one who defeated him and now has the money and the power been doing? I would prefer he gets into office than others who do nothing until the eve of election then are busy with eye service. Where are the others who were in the race and lost? ... those are the ones who just need to get into office and enrich themselves.

Somewhat good message but confused with the neocolonialist football team’s jersey and the church environment.

Religious services, while being part of community services, should be done after all other forms of community services have been completed.

Is this not the message of Jesus Christ (Prophet Isa to Muslims):

Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and (then) unto God what is God’s

Well that is the proof of those who will serve and those who are in it for personal gain, they stay 'in service' whether 'in office' or not.
There are politicians the world over who have never been in the office they aspired for yet have great legacies.
As a matter of fact office doesn't fit everyone.

And I keep on saying this. Where were the leading aspirants of the PDP in particular all these past 8 years. They are a great part of the reason this country has not progressed well. They failed in their duty 'out of government'. So where is the proof they will have succeeded 'in government'.

The Labour Party has a lot of work to do since it appears to have taken the lead as the defacto 'government in waiting'. And like I've said. If it does it well then its chances in 2027 are certain.

There is no other clean way to the top except service.

That's the spirit of patriotism

True!
But sometimes, the Youths, especially, should proved themselves that they will do more when the ' resources ' are available through govt efforts but not here in Nigeria,as some of them becomes burdensome - very arrogant and unavailable to the Masses who had earlier plead their cases before the government officials- a case of double jeopardy!
Why do you think that 'Abroad '- you must show how you have performed excellently in your Communities before you are called to serve in the Nation at large! For instance,in UK,you must prove excellent work at your local communities before coming to become a parliamentary and the reason is because they don't want failures but opposite is the ways and manners here in Nigeria!
Selection through fraudulent ways but we hope things will change!

Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has said service to community should not be dependent on being in government, IGBERETV reports.

The singer, who was the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives election in Eti-Osa federal constituency of Lagos State, lost to the Labour Party candidate.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Banky stated that not getting a seat in government shouldn't stop one from serving the community.

He wrote;

Next time choose a party that you really believe in, you can't be in one party and you and your wife are openly supporting candidate of another party. It will be unfair for you to win election that way

I agree. Even if he's acting out of hypocritical motives, the benefits being offered by him remain real, and in any case, it is still more than most others are doing. If his actions have the effect of shaming enough Nigerian politicians into accepting that regular public service is a requirement for electoral victory, it will have left the country in a far better place than it is today. As the saying goes, "hypocrisy is the respect vice pays to virtue".
